Anthony Curtner “Tom & Jerry”
9” x 12”, Graphite on paper, marker on paper, 2024
My drawing of Tom & Jerry was inspired by my childhood memories of watching the cartoon. I wanted to try and spread that joy and humor they used to bring me as a child.
I first started by following the grid and sketching with my pencil, after I got done with that I went over my sketch with a black marker. The last thing I did was color with markers to make my drawing look like the cartoon.
The drawing represents the friendship and rivalry between Tom & Jerry, showing people the joy of these childhood characters. Through my drawing I hope to bring these nostalgic memories back.
The biggest challenge was trying to decide whether to use colored pencils, markers, or other ways to draw. I spent time seeing what I felt would look better with these characters.
This drawing combines stylized realism with bold colors to give a fresh take on familiar characters. I love how it reflects my own artistic style and admiration for Tom & Jerry.
