Society; The crumpled chains that pull us back from our unrealistic dreamland,
Back to a bitter reality that isolates us from our true potential.
Constant drive to blend into the massive crowd that is humankind.
Sacrificing individuality, to please the shadow figures that come and go.
Faces are never seen, but the presence is felt gliding all around us.
A mold that we are all pressed into, extracting our essence, heritage, values.
Those who come out of the mold that pleases the media, and individuals lose their story.
They are a mere picture frame that once held the beautiful masterpiece called life.
We let the darkness win; much to its satisfaction.
We are stars in the sky that once illuminated the heavens,
But we dimmed our luminosity because others said we were too bright.
The sky approaches twilight everytime a star burns out.
The inner solitude pressures us into mindless questions.
“Who am I?”
“Why am I so ______?”
“What else can I do?”
The few that continue to shine are suppressed by those that cannot light up the night sky.
They are influenced by the dark, the sadness circling their every thought.
They lose their identity.
Is it ethical to please the hooded figures that contaminate our every decision when it never stops?
