Visual Schedules
Visual Schedules
Visual schedules are an important tool that we use each and every day! It helps our learners visualize how their day will look and what is expected of them for that day. We use visuals in our classroom because they tell the student exactly what to expect versus using written language. When they see a visual of recess or snack time, they know exactly what it means!

Visual schedules also help our learners understand different areas within the classroom and what activities are to be expected (ex. yellow table = teacher table with Ms. Taylor, blue table= leisure station).

First/ Then & Work Boards
First/ Then & Work Boards
FIRST/THEN strategies are helpful in setting expectations for your child by showing them what they "first" need to do in order to gain access to a desired item or activity. For example, "First work, then ipad" is a common phrase to use to reinforce what is expected. You can use these statements/visual pieces during any part of your child's day to help facilitate learning and structure.

WORK BOARDS tells the child how much work is left to complete until desired item becomes available. It lets them know how many steps remain until they complete the assigned task. Once your child completes a step, have them put on a star on their board! When they have earned all 5 stars, they can obtained their desired item/activity!

Timers
We use visual timers through out our day in the classroom! They provide a visual as to how much time is left for breaks or time-on-task activities. This may be a great tool to utilize as you begin introducing school-related activities into your home! Timers do not have to be fancy or high-tech. You can use your phone or iPad timer to set for your child! Below are some free timers you can try as well!

**If the timer goes off and your student requests another minute of 'break', feel free to honor it! Honoring their safe requests is a great starting point for increasing successful academic instruction within the home!**
