6th Grade Procedures
Welcome to 6th grade we are looking forward to a great year! To help you have a successful year we wanted to outline some of our procedures.
As a team, and as a school, we value academic grades as well as Learner Qualities. Our four Learner Qualities are Self-Directed Learner, Respectful Citizen, Collaborative Worker, and Quality Producer. Descriptors of our Learner Qualities are located on the Cooper website and in the Cooper Handbook.
Please review this letter with your child, sign it, and return it by September 6th, 2019. To ensure a successful school year, please refer to these expectations and procedures.
CLASS SUPPLIES (must bring daily)
CORE MATERIALS:
*We will label these folders at school. Please do not label any folders at home.
YOU WILL ALSO NEED-
*STUDENTS SHOULD CARRY THEIR CHROMEBOOKS TO ALL CORE CLASSES. Chromebooks should be charged at home every night.
Breaks
Students will have passing periods between classes to use the bathroom, go to their lockers or get a drink.
*If students have to leave during class they must also sign out on the “Sign In/Sign Out” clipboard located by the door AND sign back in when they return to the classroom.
TARDY POLICY
Students are considered on time for class when they are in their assigned seats with all of their required materials when class begins. Students are considered tardy and will receive a lower Learner Quality grade if they are not in their assigned seats and/or they do not have the required materials when class begins.
HOMEWORK
Students will be given an average of approximately sixty minutes of homework per night. Homework assignments and major projects are expected to be completed and turned in on time. Math work must be completed in pencil. Late work will have a negative effect on the student’s learner quality grades and may result in a snakebite. Students can access the homework assignments on the Google Classroom and should be responsible for recording the assignments.
*If extenuating circumstances prevent a student from completing his/her homework, parents should contact the teacher with a note or an e-mail.
ABSENCES
In the event that a student is absent, he/she should make a reasonable attempt to check his/her Google Classroom or absent bin upon returning to school for any work.
When students return from an absence, they are expected to visit the absent bin to obtain their missing work as well as check-in with the teacher prior to the end of class. All work must be completed according to the time frame listed in the Cooper Handbook (1 day for each day absent).
*Students who leave class for any reason (performing music, field trips, etc.) should check with their teacher at an appropriate time (prior to leaving) and are expected to complete their classwork and homework on time.
*Whenever absent, please check the Google classroom and email your teacher with questions.
Classroom Behavior - COBRA
All students are expected to be working towards a goal of “meeting” in each of their Learner Quality grades and appropriately following the school behavior program, COBRA.
Students will be consistently evaluated on the four Learner Qualities throughout the day. Some examples include:
Miscellaneous Items
BATHROOM- Students are expected to use the bathroom before class begins as well as at lunch and during passing periods throughout the day.
WATER- Students are encouraged to carry a water bottle with them throughout the day. No other beverages are allowed in class.
SNACK- In accordance with district policy, the only food items permitted in the classroom are fruits, vegetables, and hard cheeses.
CELL PHONES- Cell phones are to be turned off between the hours of 8:30 am & 3:30 pm and stored in students’ lockers.
Thank you!
We’re looking forward to a wonderful year!
