• Communications
  • Communications: Ms. Mantonya's students will begin reading A Long Walk to Water, a novel that includes the true story of one of the Lost Boys of Sudan, starting next week, March 9th. They will be reading both in class and at home. Please expect students to have reading and supplemental work almost every day. Ms Caracci's and Mrs. Ehardt's reading classes are reading a new novel called Among the Hidden. In this novel, the main character, Luke, is the third child in a family when all families are allowed only two children. The students will be defining vocabulary and responding to questions posed about the story.
  • Accelerated Communications: The students will be responding to questions, identifying characters, and defining vocabulary while reading a novel called Of Beetles and Angels. This book is the memoir of a Ethiopian refugee who came to the United States as a refugee and later earned his college degree from Harvard.
  • ESL Communications: We are focused on reading nonfiction articles and identifying pros and cons of an issue, and writing argumentative paragraphs where students include a claim and counterclaim.
• Math:
  • Accelerated Math: We are continuing to work Let's Be Rational III. This book focuses on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing positive and negative numbers. We will be also be working on Order of Operations after Spring Break.
  • Math: We are working on multiplying and dividing decimals. Today we started working on long division and next week we will work on dividing decimals.
  • Mrs. Liro's Math class: This week we started Covering and Surrounding. This book focuses on area, perimeter, volume, and surface area.
• Science:
  • Students in science are working on our Life Science Unit. This week they are following lessons through the google classroom as they participate in E- Learning. They are researching a type of symbiotic relationship(Mutualism, Commensalism or Parasitism) and creating a Google Site about that relationship and examples of organisims who share that relationship.
  • Please ask your child to share the progress of the symbiotic project with you.
  • Mrs. Liro's Science class: Physical science - states of matter, forms of energy, energy conversions and transfers.
• Social Studies:
  • Ms. Caracci's Class will continue to engage in inquiry-based learning about Ancient Greece.
• OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
  • Continue to ask your child what clubs or sports they are interested in joining. We have a lot of fun before and after school options!
  • Be sure to check the Parent Portal to keep up to date with your child's progress/grades.
