Hope Squad Members are nominated through peer nominations and teacher recommendations as a student who has a positive attitude and who care about other students. Your Hope Squad Advisors will be providing a parent manual with additional information about the Hope Squad Program for all participating members.
The purpose of this program is to provide elementary age students with training and informatin on how to help peers who struggle with mental or emotional problems. Additionally, students are provided with information on what resources are available to them when they need help, such as parent, teachers, school faculty, school social workers, and other trusted adults.
Hope Squad members will receive training about resilience, mental wellness, anti-bullying, suicide prevention, and how to seek help from an adult. Your child WILL NOT be asked to act as a Counselor for other children, but rather will be trained to refer student peers to a trusted adult for help.
Each Hope Squad member is required to attend an initial Hope Squad training session at the beginning of the program. They are encouraged to attend monthly meetings in which they will be trained in the core phases of elementary-level social skills and helping behaviors. Students are also given opportunities to develop leadership skills by organizing and participating in schoolwide events and activities. Parents will be invited to a meeting where more information will be shared and questions addressed.
We are excited for the opportunity to work with your student and are committed to helping them have a great experience in the Hope Squad Program!
