All About...
This is my 7th year as the School Psychologist at Strawtown, and it is one of my favorite places! Before I started here full-time, I worked part-time between Strawtown and West Nyack Elementary. I grew up in CCSD and went to Laurel Plains, FFMS, and South High School! I work with parents, teachers, and most importantly students both in counseling and for psychoeducational evaluations, which often lead to IEPs. I also work as the chairperson of our MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) team to support students who may be struggling academically or behaviorally. I recently completed my doctorate in School Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and I also got engaged last year. That means my name will be "Dr. Gabeau" starting this January 2026. Some of my favorite activities are reading, watching movies with my fiancé, and going for outdoor walks. Over the summer, I am also the Camp Director at Rockland Center for the Arts (my favorite place in the world) in West Nyack, where I get to spend extra time with some of our Strawtown friends!
This is my 12th year at Strawtown Elementary as our Student Assistance Counselor (very fancy way of saying social worker) and my 15th year with CCSD. When I'm not hanging out helping kids at Strawtown, I'm over at Woodglen Elementary. Before coming to Clarkstown, I worked with at-risk youth for almost 10 years! After moving from the Bronx when I was 7, I have grown up in Clarkstown... First at Lakewood, then Festa, and finally a proud CHSN graduate. As our Student Assistance Counselor, or SAC for short, I do many different things in the building. I help our students learn valuable skills such as friendship building, problem solving, recognizing feelings, and working through things that are hard. A lot of times this is done through group or individual counseling, but can also be done through classroom meetings. I also teach our Erin's Law lessons in every grade! Additionally, I work with both teachers and families to help support what students need and provide resources. When I'm not here at school, I love spending time with my family and kids, who are 12 and 19, hanging out with my friends (some of them you'll find around our school), watching the Yankees play, going to concerts, and spending time at the BEACH!
This is my 8th year as the Behavior Intervention Specialist here at Strawtown! I like to tell the students that I am like Strawtown's very own fairy godmother who goes around and helps everyone make good choices. I work with students and teachers in every grade, including general education and special education. I provide support to students who have difficulty with focus, organization, or impulse control. I work with teachers to develop class-wide positive reinforcement systems and share ideas to increase motivation for students who need a little push. I also conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop formal Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), which are typically tied to an IEP. I love getting to know the students in Kindergarten, and seeing how they flourish all the way through 5th grade. In my free time, I love to go to Yankee games, read a good psychological thriller, or spend time with my family. My son, Antonio, is a first grader who loves to make us laugh! My two dogs, Iggy and Honey, are sweet, adorable, and oh so naughty!
