FOREIGN LANGUAGE IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (FLES)
FLES is an approach to language learning that allows students to develop basic communicative skills in a language while at the same time reinforcing and enriching content in other disciplines. At Clarkstown, we aim to make learning Spanish an engaging and enjoyable experience for your child.
Through a mix of games, activities, and cultural exploration, we'll build their language skills and foster an appreciation for the richness and diversity of the Spanish-speaking world. Research shows that learning a second language at a young age can enhance cognitive abilities, improve problem-solving skills, and broaden cultural horizons.
WORLD LANGUAGES
The Clarkstown World Languages Department studies four languages: Spanish, French, Italian, and American Sign Language. Classes range from entry level to college level and Advanced Placement. Students select a world language of study upon entering 7th grade.
New York State Seal of Biliteracy
The Clarkstown Central School District is pleased to offer the New York State Seal of Biliteracy. This recognition is awarded to students who demonstrate proficiency in two or more languages through courses, a portfolio assessment, and community service.
