Through a competitive process, members of the Clarkstown Central School District were invited to participate in the Smithsonian Science Education Center in collaboration with Shell Oil Company held its annual STEM Education Summit in February 2021. This year’s theme “Building a Coalition for Attracting and Retaining a Diverse STEM Teaching Workforce” focused on confronting the underrepresentation in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) teaching and leadership. During the virtual summit, our team of educators created a plan for attracting or retaining a diverse STEM teaching workforce in the District. There were teams represented from all over the United States and the overall goal of the summit continues to be to attract, hire, and retain 30,000 teachers in the field of STEM from underrepresented groups by 2030.
