When we are feeling worried or anxious we try to remember "to keep our brain where our feet are".
If you're feet are on the floor in math class, guess where your brain should be??? You've got it.... thinking about MATH. Not thinking about video games, or the weather, or anything else.
When we focus on the here and the now, we can not worry about other things.
One of the most common inquiries I receive from parents is about their child and friendship concerns. Typically younger children (K-2) all play together and invite others to join in on a game or other play activity. Once children are in the upper elementary age we begin to see changes in friendships. Groups become smaller, and children usually find a friend group they feel a part of and comfortable with. As they continue to grow we start to see "friendship drama". Children can report feeling "left out" as friendships continue to shift and change. This is one of the most common reasons students come to visit me. Together, we work through the "drama" and communicate with parents/guardians on how to support their child at home.
The above article does a great job in giving tips and advice on how we, as parents, can help our children navigate the social world they live in. I hope you find it helpful. As always, if your child is experiencing any difficulties or you have any questions, please reach out.
