BRAINSTORMING THE GOAL
There are no shortage of resources in education, but putting them in one convenient spot is challenging. This is a resource I wish I had had access to in the past. I would like to give students, parents and educators access to free, genuinely qualitative mother tongue/multiple languages (other than English) resources in way that is easy to find and access.
WHY IS THIS NEEDED
I feel this is needed because it provides a one stop place for quality resources. The site features both audio and ebooks. My school could benefit from this because, while our library does a decent collection of mother tongue print books, we need more and this is a good digital supplement. It is easy to access and free. Parents and students can use this and they do not need to be on campus to do so.
APPLYING THE COURSE RESEARCH
Hopefully this resource helps to prevent subtractive BMLs (and more towards balanced bilingual) who lose access to texts and audio of their mother tongue. These sources cover vocabulary and reading levels from young children to high school, from FL1s to Extended Vocabulary and textbook language. There is also a differentiated aspect here, as these words can be accessed in text or audio formats.
In Chapter 3, the "crisis" of the education of bilingual and multilingual students is addressed and specifcally how teachers, who have the best of intentions, do not have the correct training or resources. Hopefully, in some small way, this can help with the resources aspect.
These tools is also not restricted by subscription or even geographic location; anyone with the link, a device and internet connection can read in one of over 50 languages from these websites.
IMPACT OF THE CP
Hopefully this tool can give access to quality mother tongue reading sources that some students, educators or parents would not easily have access to or this website can save them time, as all of the resources have been collected in one place. I imagine this could be be impactful, in that it is free and easy to use and easily shareable. Those who use it could pass it on to other people they know who may want to access mother tongue language resources.
The site does not require any special skills. It can be used by all ages and educators and non-educators alike. This gives it the potential to be used easily and often.
