IMPORTANT - Because the second semester is well under way, we will no longer be accepting applicants for remote learners at the secondary level (middle and high school). Elementary may still apply with the understanding that there is significant overlap (meaning the student's content would start at the beginning for the semester).
On August 9, the school board approved an additional K-12 option for students. This option is Edgenuity. This program is approved by the VDOE as a multidivisional online program. This program is open for ALL enrolled students.
Students with disabilities who are electing to participate in remote instruction through Virtual Virginia or Edgenuity will have IEP meetings to consider services required for their participation in the remote learning option.
At the Culpeper County School Board meeting held on May 24th, Virtual Virginia was selected as the K-12 provider for a virtual option for CCPS students. The application deadline for this service was July 15th. Since that deadline, only students who meet one of the three criteria listed below could be enrolled in Virtual Virginia (However, Virtual Virginia may still not be available even if your child meets the new student criteria. The Virtual Virginia administrator with Culpeper Schools will bring your request to VVA where they will judge it on a case by case basis):
New students enrolled in Culpeper schools
Students with a documented medical reason
Military transfer
If you meet one of these three requirements and would prefer Virtual Virginia, please contact virtualprograms@ccpsweb.org.
Whether your child is enrolled in Virtual Virginia or Edgenuity, there are important things to keep in mind:
Your student is still enrolled with Culpeper County Public Schools (Kindergarten through 12th Grade)
A school issued Chromebook will be used (previously provided)
Your teacher(s) will NOT be from Culpeper County Public Schools
Your child will need to commit for one semester at a time and request re-enrollment by December 1st in writing to your base school administrator (if the student would like to continue in remote instruction for the spring semester). A transition back to in-person learning may be possible based on changing conditions or because the student is not meeting learning benchmarks in the remote setting.
Grades and records will be maintained by CCPS and if your course requires mandated state testing, you would need to attend those events in person
Elective options will be limited and students WILL NOT have access to CCPS elective programs (like band, choir, ACE)
You MUST have adequate internet service (not provided by CCPS)
Tuition will be paid by CCPS, but other content-related fees may be applicable (for example, costs for taking an AP exam)
