Writing:
- Get a journal and decorate it. Have your student write daily to a classmate, friend or family member. Look to see that they are applying letter sounds knowledge to their writing. Phonetic spelling is fine for younger grades!
Kindergarten 1-2 sentences with a picture on topic.
1st grade 3 sentences with a picture on topic.
2nd-5th grade 4-5 sentences with a picture on topic.
- Reading Response Letter- have students write about books they are reading and tell their teacher about it. They can create a document on google docs, via their my.ccpsnet.net dashboard.
Click google drive. Click new document.
Type a letter to the teacher and tell them about the book, if they like it, what their favorite part is, if they would recommend it to a friend, and write a brief summary or retell of the book.
Most importantly, students should be reading daily. The typical language arts block in a school day is 90 minutes.
Thank you for your support!
