Message from the Principal
Good afternoon CHES Families,
Thank you to Mrs. Harris, Ms. Jordan, our fourth graders, their teachers, and the whole resource team for providing us with an incredible Veterans Day Program! It was very meaningful and special to honor so many Veterans!
This week's Parent Snapshot is for the week of November 13 through Nov. 21st. We have combined both weeks into one snapshot due to the week of Nov. 20th being a short week.
We continue to welcome your perspective on the culture of CHES. Below is a link to the Building Ranks Survey in which we ask that you please complete by 12/9/2023. Your responses are anonymous. Only aggregated results are reported. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. Clover Hill Elementary School is honored to recognize and celebrate our 24-25 School Year Teacher of the Year! We thank Mrs. Loppacker for her many years of service at CHES and the countless students she has positively impacted. Mrs. Loppacker represents our entire teaching staff, all of whom are winners in our book!
Mrs. Kathy Loppacker,
1st Grade Teacher
Each quarter, two students from each class are selected as CHES CHAMPS. Today, we honored our first quarter CHES CHAMPS during lunches. Students who embody and live the 8 Habits can be chosen by either their teacher or classmates. CHAMPS got to eat lunch on the stage today, received 2 lanyard tags, a special certificate, and 20 clovers to use at the PBIS cart.
Congratulations to our 1st Quarter CHES CHAMPS!

🚌 As a reminder, the CCPS handbook states that students must be at bus stops 5 minutes prior to their scheduled pick-up time to ensure timeliness.
☎️ Ever wonder who to contact at CHES? HERE is a great chart with common issues/concerns and who can help you!
Lunch Visitors: We are excited that so many of you are joining us for lunch! As a reminder, you are welcome to eat with your own child. We are not able to allow other students, including relatives like nieces/nephews from the same grade level to join you for lunch.
Please mark your calendars for way down the road...March 5th students will be working from home due to the fact that many schools serve as voting sites for the 2024 presidential primary.
Please click the Problem Resolution Chart to access information to help guide you to the correct person if there are issues.
Families of students in grades 3-8: Check ParentVUE for a letter about additional tutoring opportunities for your child. There are two virtual meetings scheduled to understand more about this fantastic opportunity. Feel free to join one of these two meetings for more information.
November 17th at 11:30. Please go to Meet.Google and use the code: meet.google.com/qvx-sgeq-xtj
OR
November 20th at 6:00. Please go to Meet.Google and use the code: meet.google.com/ppy-szke-zug
A letter is now available in ParentVUE for students who qualify for additional tutoring. Please log into ParentVUE to learn if your child meets the criteria to receive additional support and next steps. This initiative is specific to math and/or reading for students in grades 3-8. Families will receive a separate letter in ParentVUE for each student in these grades who qualifies for additional tutoring. Please note that a letter will only be present for students who qualify for additional tutoring. If your student does not qualify, no letter will be present in ParentVUE.
In September 2023, the Virginia Department of Education released an ALL In initiative to partner with parents of students in grades 3-8 in the areas of tutoring, literacy and attendance. Based on guidance standards set forth by VDOE, test scores were used to determine whether students could benefit from additional tutoring support:
For students currently in third grade, the fall 2023 Virginia Growth Assessment was used.
For students in grades 4-8, the spring 2023 Standards of Learning test was used.
VDOE parent resources for the All In initiative can be viewed at doe.virginia.gov/teaching-learning-assessment/all-in-tutoring.
Use the mobile ParentVUE app or click here to log into the ParentVUE web platform to see if your child qualifies for more tutoring.
Students referred for Gifted Evaluation will participate in a variety of tasks here at school in the coming weeks. If your child is part of this, you will receive an email from Mrs. Holt with our testing schedule.
Parents who received referral letters also received information to complete a task by Nov. 21.

GENERAL TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION
We appreciate all parents complying with our morning and afternoon drop-off/pick-up procedures to ensure safety for students and staff. Parents should not park at the top of the hill to walk their students down to the building in the mornings. If you are choosing to drive your student, we expect that you will follow our drop-off procedures. It is advised that you are in the drop-off line by 7:40 to ensure you are in line before the cones are placed at 7:42/7:43 when there is a break in traffic. Students are expected to be seated in class at 7:45 when instruction begins. This procedure has been in place since the first day of school, yet we are finding the need to remind parents.
Please TURN RIGHT out of the school driveway when you are exiting after morning car drop-off. Left turns are prohibited, as noted by the sign below the stop sign at the intersection. We have had some close calls lately and ask for your cooperation with this request.
It takes several days to be routed to a bus. Any transportation changes involving a bus change need to be given to us with as much notice as possible before the change is to occur.
Daycare Students & Attendance: Please notify your daycare when your child will not be attending in the afternoon. This is for student accountability and safety during the afternoon pick up time.
Students are to ride home on their bus and won't be permitted to ride home on a friends bus.
Please send in a written note when making transportation changes. It is a reminder for the teachers to have the note.
If you need to pick up your student early from school, we ask that you please plan on coming no later than 1:45 and to please keep end of day office dismissals to urgent matters.
WALKER INFORMATION
Previously, our walker pick-up location was at Door 5.
You will now meet your student(s) at Door 4.
The star on the map to the right shows the new location.
This will help alleviate congestion in the walker and parent pick-up areas due to the additional learning cottages that have been added to our campus.
Please be sure you bring your walker number so we can ensure each student is safely dismissed to the correct family.
If your student walks in the morning and arrives later than 7:45 when the bell rings, they need to come through the front of the building to receive a tardy slip from the office.
MORNING DROP OFF
Morning drop off begins at 7:20am.
You will drive through the parking lot as noted on the map.
NEW as of 10/16/23: Students will be able to exit cars on their own without waiting for a staff member to open the car door. Students can begin unloading once the vehicle passes the fence (see image to the right). Staff and safety patrols will be available to assist students as needed. We are hoping this will expedite the drop-off process just a little bit as we unload over 200 cars each morning.
Students are expected to be in their seats, ready to begin learning at 7:45am. This means the drop off line needs to close prior to this timeframe to ensure students are in their classrooms.
2 large orange cones will be placed in the driveway when there is a break in traffic around 7:42/7:43am.
Once the cones are up, you may not proceed through the drop off line.
You will need to park and walk your child into the building for a tardy slip from the office.
Right turns only when exiting the school drop-off onto Woodlake Village Parkway.
AFTERNOON PICK UP
Daycare vans will pull through to load and go before we wave parents to come to the loading zone.
Please pull through the loading zone to the next available cone. We will load cars 4 at a time and then move cars so the next 4 can pull up to cones to be loaded .
You are receiving 2 copies of your car-rider number.
You will need to have a car-rider card with you daily as authorization to pick up your child(ren).
Your car-rider card has a number that matches the number your child(ren) have inside the building.
Hang the provided student car-rider card on the rearview mirror of the vehicle using a child’s size hanger. The card should remain visible until your child is loaded into your vehicle. This ensures the safety of your child(ren) and the efficiency of our procedures.
Staff will call for students, students will exit the building out of the cafeteria doors, and staff will ensure students make it to the correct vehicle.
Please remain in your vehicle while staff assists your child(ren) loading into the vehicle. For the safety of our students and staff, please do NOT park and walk up to the sidewalk with your car-rider card to pick up your child(ren).
Parents will then follow the path as noted on the map to exit onto Woodlake Village Parkway.
You may allow another adult to utilize a student car-rider card; which gives that person authorization to pick up your child(ren).
Anyone picking up student(s) must have the car-rider card. If an adult does not have the car-rider card, they will need to park in the parking lot, come into the building, provide proof of identification, and sign the student out. Exceptions will not be made.
Please be aware of pedestrians in the parking lot.
DO NOT pass other cars in line unless a staff member waves you through.
We are excited to welcome lunch visitors!! Anyone wishing to have lunch with their student on a particular day must sign up.
Due to space constraints, we will offer 3 slots during each lunch period on a first come (sign-up) basis. We only have space for a maximum of 2 visitors per child (only use one sign up slot). Please review the available slots for the first semester and click on the button to sign up. Be sure to sign up for the correct grade level lunch for your student and check with your child's teacher for their specific lunch time. We will send a new sign up for the second semester in early November. When you arrive for your scheduled lunch time, please be sure to check in at the front office for your visitor pass. We look forward to seeing you soon!
If you have any issues signing up, please email Mrs. Holt at amanda_holt@ccpsnet.net
📃Parent Handbook
Each student has received a parent handbook that he/she should have brought home. Incase you have not seen it, here is an electronic copy in English and Spanish.
