INTERMEDIATE / ADVANCED GUITAR (PA523O / PA522O) OVERVIEW
This course is designed to give the advancing guitarist an opportunity to continue to develop technique in note reading, chord structure, strumming rhythms, finger picking, flat picking, music theory, soloing, and performance. A special emphasis is placed on classical music, Spanish music, the blues, and jazz. Some students will prepare for college study by preparing advanced solo guitar repertoire. Students provide their own acoustic guitar and concert attire (rented for $35 or purchased for $85). Guitar rental is available for $50/year. There is a required $15 music fee for participation in all high school music classes.
This course may be taken for honors credit.
Please note: Guitar class is a co-curricular performing arts class. That means that the evening rehearsals and concerts are required and graded per CCPS policy. Expect a minimum of four rehearsals and two performances outside the school day. See the CCPS performance contract and Guitar Google Calendar for additional details.
Prerequisite(s): PA521 Beginning Guitar or audition. Students must be strong note readers to join intermediate and advanced guitar, so audition or director recommendation is required. Advanced Guitar may be taken more than once for graduation credit.

Classical or acoustic guitar (no electric guitars per CCPS policy)
Gigbag or hard case (with your name on it)
Collapsible footstool
Kyser style clamp capo (correct type for your guitar)
Extra set of strings (correct type for your guitar)
Flat picks (start off the year with at least 10)
2 Pencils (Do not write on sheet music in pen.)

Music folder (provided by school)
