Welcome to Scott’s Fifth Grade Plans!

Here is a day by day plan for your child to complete. As far as completing the assignments, you can figure out what works best for your children, you and your work schedule.

Getting started…..

Designate a specific area for school work. If your student is working in a space that is used for other things, like the kitchen table or coffee table, I suggest you have a container to keep all of their school items in. It makes for easier clean up and will keep all their things together.

Create and post a schedule to help with structure and accountability. You may want to put your child’s strong subjects at the end of the schedule and get the more difficult subjects completed first.

Remind your child that when it is “school time,” you are their teacher and not their parent. You are not being judgmental or critical, but are helping them learn what they need to understand. Explain to them that you may not do things the way their teacher does and that it is OK.

Above all, we want to make sure your child is reading, reading, reading! If you are having trouble getting your child to complete something, consider taking a break and reading a book together or giving your child time to have some independent reading. If you have multiple school-age children and one finishes early, encourage them to read while they wait. If your schedule allows, consider setting aside a time each day that you read a book together. No matter your child’s age, they enjoy listening to a book!
