• March 30-April 3: Math Choice Board
• Using a collection of objects (ie: old buttons, pieces of cereal, blocks...etc.), create a pattern. Name the pattern and find the core (the part that repeats). Can you extend the pattern? What about creating a new one with the same pattern?
• With your child, select a recipe to create. Have the child read the directions and measure out the ingredients.
• Find a recipe for your favorite dessert. What fractions are found in that recipe? Can you draw a part of a whole model for that fraction?
• Domino Fractions (using dominoes draw the fraction that your domino shows). Example

• March 30-April 3: Literacy Choice Board

Read a new book. Write a script for a commercial for the book. Record your commercial and post it on the Crenshaw Facebook group.

• While driving, have your child find numbers and read signs along the way.
• Humphrey Activities.
• Practice writing skills by writing a beginning, middle, and end to a story they have read.
• Write a paragraph about something you have done.
• Write a poem.
• Make a word search using spring words.
• Read a magazine.
• Read a story and create a recipe based on what you’ve read. (For example: Read “How to Eat Fried Worms and change an old or create a new recipe on how to cook worms) *****DO NOT MAKE AND EAT THESE RECIPES******
• Write about your favorite book! What are your favorite parts of the story? Who is your favorite character and why? If you could write a different ending to your book, what would you do?

FICTION READ & RESPOND:

• Draw a map to show where the story you read took place. Label important places from the story on your map.
• Create a movie poster for the story you just read. Include the title of the story and the names of the important characters.
• Write a different ending to the story you just read.
• What is the main problem or conflict in the story you just read? How do the characters solve this problem? Do you feel that the characters did the right thing? Explain.
• Fiction stories often have good and bad characters. Name one good and one bad character from the story you just read. What makes each one good or bad?
• Draw three pictures of story characters. Write a sentence that describes each one.

• Every couple of days, observe the trees. Draw a picture of the changes that are happening.

• Watch the weather and chart it~if low or high pressure, cold or warm front, temperature, etc.
• Make a simple machine using your toys
• What toys do you have that use simple machines?
• Collect natural resources in your yard and use those to create a shelter for an animal that lives there.
• Draw and label the ecosystem found in your backyard. What producers and consumers are in your yard? What food chain could exist in your backyard?
• Grow sugar crystals- create a supersaturated mixture of sugar and water and place in a glass jar. Add a string or popsicle stick and watch crystals grow.
• Does ice freeze faster when you use cold or hot water?
• Grab two ice trays and add different temperatures of water and see how long they each take to freeze.
• Which solids dissolve in water? Test sugar, salt, pepper, flour, baking soda and epsom salts separately.
• Design the longest flying paper airplane with your family. Who will have the best design? What design makes it fly straight? How do you make it loop only? What form of decorative markings should the plan have
• Design an egg-drop contraption with your parent’s permission. Drop it from a height and see if the egg stays in one piece.
• Go on a backyard nature hunt. How many invertebrates can you find? How many different species of plants?
• Find examples of various simple machines in your house (i.e. screws, wedges, wheel and axles, pulleys, and levers). Make a graph of the simple machines you have found. What did you find the most of? What did you find the least of? Can you find any compound machines?
• Watch Bill Nye the Science Guy and Magic School Bus videos on science content on Discovery Ed (found on Rapid Identity), and/or Youtube.
