Germanna Community College is hosting a free STEAM-H Day for the community on Saturday April 5, 10-2pm, at our Fredericksburg Area Campus for Grades K-12. Registration is encouraged but not required.
A big piece of a successful 4-H camp is having dedicated and caring Teen Counselors. These Teen Counselors make wonderful connections with our campers, thus creating life-long memories for the youth participants. While the teens gain leadership and teamwork skills. We also have the opportunity for those teens that may not be quite ready for the full responsibility of being a Teen Counselor. These individuals would fall under the title of “Counselors in Training” or in the 4-H camp world – “CITs”. We are in the process of looking for these dedicated and kind counselors and CITs. I am reaching out today to see if you could pass this along to any youth that you would think would be an excellent fit for these positions.
To qualify as a Teen Counselor, one must be at least 14 years old (as of 9/30/2025) and currently in High School. To qualify as a CIT, one must be at least 13 years old (as of 9/30/2025). To become a Teen Counselor or CIT the youth must complete an application and 15-minute interview. The youth will be asked for three references and the references’ contact information as part of the application process. If selected as a counselor or CIT, a training is required before attending camp. Our applications are currently open and are being accepted until March 14th, 11:59 P.M.
SEE VT is a residential camp for rising 6th and 7th grade gifted students from rural communities. At SEE VT, rural middle school students will have access to place-based and rural-focused academic enrichment to include STEM and humanities courses, social activities, exploration of campus life, field trips, and more!
Camp will be held on Virginia Tech's Blacksburg campus June 15-20, 2025.
The total cost for camp is $500 and includes all programming, housing, food, and fees. Financial scholarships are available for accepted students with need.
Please note that in years past, we have received more applications than spaces are available. Please work with your applicant to ensure they submit their best work to demonstrate why they would like to attend an academic enrichment camp. Videos and application materials should speak to the applicant's passions and curiosities!
Applications are due by MARCH 31st. Please see the attached flyer and visit our website for the application link and additional information. Please also share this email with other rural educators who can help spread the word. Rural is our passion, and we are excited to share this opportunity with rural learners!
