DIESEL TECHNICIAN PROGRAM

Class overview

The CCST Diesel Technician Program offers entry-level technical training in accordance with the ASE (The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence) Inspection, Maintenance, and Minor Repair (IMMR) standards. ASE IMMR standards set forth student diesel tech career training goals in the areas of; Shop Safety and Tool Use, Vehicle Electrical/Electronic Systems, Air & Hydraulic Brakes, Suspension & Steering, Diesel Engines, Class 5-8 Truck Maintenance & Minor Repair.

Students will also develop the necessary workplace skills for professional career success, and have an opportunity to participate in ASE entry-level certification testing.

CCST Diesel Technology Course Sampling

The overall goal of the CCST Diesel Technician Program is to provide students with basic technical skills and occupational competencies for successful entry into the medium and heavy duty vehicle repair field. The program additionally aims at meeting industry needs for a skilled workforce.

Course Units Covered:

Juniors

(1st year)

  • Shop and Personal Safety

  • Tools and Equipment, Measuring Tools

  • Electrical Theory and Electrical Systems

  • Air and Hydraulic Brakes

  • Steering and Suspension systems

  • Hydraulic Systems

*Students must successfully pass both semesters of their junior year to be eligible to return for the senior year training.

Seniors

(2nd year)

  • Diesel Engine Components General Operation and Maintenance

  • Diesel Engine Lubrication and Cooling Systems

  • Air Induction, Exhaust/Aftertreatment, and Fuel Systems

  • Drivetrain and Clutches

  • Manual and Automatic Transmissions

  • Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning and Cab
