李國麒畢業於香港中文大學音樂系。後赴笈美國,於西北大學修讀音樂碩士課程,主修長號演奏。肄業期間,由於學業及演奏成績優異,獲頒發學院榮譽獎狀,並獲美國著名音樂學會 Pi Kappa Lambda賞識,授予終生會籍。
回港後,李氏一直投入演奏、教育及音樂推廣的工作。除為多間中、小學創立、教授及指揮樂團外,亦曾多年擔任中文大學音樂系長號講師。教育方面,李氏曾任教於香港中文大學校外進修學院、理工大學、香港教育學院及香港藝術中心藝術學院。此外,李氏曾為香港管弦樂團、音樂事務處、藝術圖書館、歷史博物館及各中、小學主持音樂欣賞講座,亦曾為香港電台主持節目,以輕鬆幽默的風格教授音樂欣賞,廣受聽眾歡迎和愛戴。
李氏除在報章和音響雜誌刊登文章外,亦經常為康樂文化事務署和香港管弦樂團編撰寫音樂會曲目、音樂欣賞介紹及鐳射唱片;此外,亦曾為寶麗金唱片公司編撰「WHY」、「WHY KLAVIER」及「PASSPORT TO MUSIC」等極為暢銷的鐳射唱片,對古典音樂的普及和推廣可謂不遺餘力。
李氏擁有豐富的演奏經驗,曾參與莫斯科交響樂團、波士頓交響樂團、香港管弦樂團及香港小交響樂團的演出。近年,李氏專注各類早期樂器的研究及演奏,並成立「匠心薈」,在不同表演場地舉辦音樂會,致力介紹和推廣中世紀、文藝復與及巴羅克等早期音樂。
Lee Kwok Ki Joseph graduated from the Music Department of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He later pursued his Master’s degree in Music at Northwestern University in the United States, majoring in trombone performance. During his studies, due to his outstanding academic and performance achievements, he was awarded the Commendation of Honours and was recognized by the prestigious American music honor society Pi Kappa Lambda, which granted him lifetime membership.
After returning to Hong Kong, Lee has been actively involved in performance, education, and music promotion. He has founded, taught, and conducted bands in various primary and secondary schools, and also served for many years as a trombone instructor in the Music Department of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. In the field of education, he has taught at the School of Continuing and Professional Studies of CUHK, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Hong Kong Institute of Education, and the Hong Kong Art School. Lee has also hosted music appreciation seminars for organizations such as the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Music Office, the Arts Library, the Museum of History, and various schools. Additionally, he hosted programmes on RTHK, where his humorous and engaging style of teaching music appreciation was widely welcomed and loved by audiences.
Beyond his teaching and performing work, Lee has written articles for newspapers and hi-fi magazines. He frequently writes concert programme notes, music appreciation guides, and CD liner notes for the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. He also contributed to best-selling classical music CDs for PolyGram Records, including WHY, WHY KLAVIER, and PASSPORT TO MUSIC, making significant contributions to the popularization and promotion of classical music.
Lee possesses extensive performance experience, having participated in performances with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. In recent years, he has focused on the research and performance of early musical instruments, and founded the ensemble L’Artiste, which organizes concerts at various venues to introduce and promote medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music.
