Author Visit - Ashley Hickson-Lovence
As part of Black History Month, we are absolutely thrilled to announce an exciting literary event taking place at our school on Thursday 16th October. We will be welcoming the talented contemporary British novelist, poet, and literary critic, Ashley Hickson-Lovence, for a day of inspiring sessions with our students.
Ashley Hickson-Lovence is known for his compelling and diverse body of work, including his highly-regarded adult novels: The 392 and Your Show. Perhaps most relevant to our students is his young-adult novel-in-verse, Wild East, which draws deeply on his experiences as an English teacher and his passion for British hip hop. His unique perspective and dynamic approach to writing make him a truly inspiring guest.
Event Schedule
Ashley will spend the day engaging with our student body across several events:
School Assembly: He will deliver a motivational talk to Year 9 students, sharing his journey as a writer and critic.
Creative Writing Workshops: Following the assembly, he will host two dedicated creative writing workshops in our library. These smaller, focused sessions will give students the chance to learn techniques directly from a published author and explore their own voices, with particular reference to his modern, innovative style.
This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to connect with a successful working writer and to be encouraged in their own literacy and creativity. We look forward to a memorable and inspiring day!
Climate council is on Thursdays at 3:05-3:35pm in room 419 all students in KS3 (years 7-9) are welcome.
