Year 9 MEP China Trip Briefing

We will have a Year 9 MEP China trip briefing, please see details below. 

Date: Wednesday 3rd June 2026

Time: 5:30 - 6:20pm 

Venue: Sarabi Hall 

At the briefing, we will cover things like accommodation, communication (mobile phones), money etc. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions. We will send the powerpoint presentation to all parents after the briefing.

My Zone Lesson -  Next Half Term

NEW UNIT: My Impact

My Impact explores identity, diversity, equality, wellbeing, and personal growth. Students reflect on who they are, how their actions affect others, and how they can contribute positively to their communities and society. Through learning about culture, identity, anti-racism, disability awareness and ableism, religion and belief, LGBTQ+ inclusion, body confidence, discrimination, allyship, wellbeing, and personal development, students build empathy, respect, confidence, and a stronger sense of self. The topic encourages students to celebrate diversity, challenge prejudice and stereotypes, reflect on their own growth, and plan how they can become their best selves in the next stage of their lives.

Year 7 – Understanding Differences and Challenging Discrimination

This Lesson:

• Different ways people can be similar and different

• Identity, culture, religion, disability, interests, and beliefs

• Understanding stereotypes and prejudice

• The difference between banter and discrimination

• How discrimination can affect emotions, confidence, and wellbeing

• Examples of discrimination in school, online, and society

• Safe ways to respond if discrimination happens to you or someone else

• How to build a respectful and inclusive community

Year 8 – Recognising and Responding to Discrimination

This Lesson:

• Different forms of discrimination in modern society

• Antisemitism, racism, misogyny, transphobia, ableism, and religious discrimination

• How stereotypes and misinformation spread online and offline

• Why marginalised groups are sometimes unfairly blamed during difficult times

• The role of media, influencers, and peer groups in shaping attitudes

• The impact discrimination can have on individuals and communities

• Strategies for safely challenging prejudice and supporting others

• How schools and communities can create inclusive and welcoming environments

Year 9 –Understanding Structural Inequality and Discrimination

This lesson:

• The meaning of structural inequality and systemic discrimination

• Understanding patriarchy and traditional gender expectations

• How gender stereotypes can negatively affect people of all genders

• Wealth, income, and opportunity inequality in the UK

• Barriers some groups face in education, careers, housing, and healthcare

• The relationship between power, privilege, and social systems

• The role of activism, allyship, and policy in creating change

• Practical ways individuals and communities can help challenge inequality and promote fairness

Year 10 – INTERVENTION

Reminder: Year 8 HPV (Human Papillomavirus) Vaccine

The School Aged Immunisation Team will be coming into your child's school on 01/05/2025 and 12/06/2026 to administer the HPV vaccine to girls and boys in Year 8. 

Please use the link below to register your consent for your child to receive the vaccine, please complete this whether you want your child to have the vaccine or do not consent.  When completing the form, please ensure that you make absolutely sure that you have entered the correct school as there are a lot of schools in the Barnet area with the same or similar names.

This is a very important vaccine and is part of your child's routine childhood vaccinations.  It protects against 9 strains of the Human Papillomavirus and prevents against certain types of Cancer.

Your child's school will mostly have two dates booked unless it is a very small school.   If your child misses their vaccine at the first session due to illness or absence, please do not complete a second consent form, the original consent form will still be valid.
