“The will of God will never lead you where the grace of God will not protect you.” Those were the words the Steve Peschong family lived by during his late wife Marilyn's courageous battle with cancer. For anyone that knew Marilyn, she left a footprint on your heart that will never be forgotten. She lived her Catholic faith fervently. It is apparent in the lives of her children and grandchildren today. They have a faith that is unshaken even with the loss of their wife, mother, and grandmother. Steve and Marilyn were blessed to raise seven children, each of whom attended Mitchell Catholic Schools. Steve ('68) and Marilyn ('69) are also Notre Dame Catholic School alumni themselves. These factors made the decision easy for Steve and his family to start a named scholarship endowment Marilyn's memory .
In 2011 the family of Marilyn (Bannwarth) Peschong established the Marilyn Peschong Memorial Scholarship . This scholarship is available to a graduating senior from Mitchell High School or Mitchell Christian School who has attended John Paul II School for a minimum of three years and graduated sixth grade there. A scholarship committee selects the winner that is announced each May.

An endowment fund is a perpetual fund, created by charitable donations in the form of cash, stocks, mutual funds, real property, or other personal property given to the Foundation. The practice of investing the principal, rather than spending it, creates a perpetual fund. Most of an endowment’s annual earnings are distributed to the designated benefactors, in this case, John Paul II School. Endowments provide a “forever-giving” funding source for Catholic programs and activities. A gift in your will could establish an endowment and a lasting legacy for you, your family, and benefactor.
