A list of curated tools that allow users to create their own visualizations.
The San Joaquin COE has developed a new tool that will allow you to take your CAASPP data files from TOMS and automatically create data visualizations, including interactive charts, using Google Looker Studio. These data visualizations include the SBAC ELA, SBAC Math, CAST, CAA ELA, CAA Math and CAA Science. To set up the dashboard using your data should take just about 5-15 mins.

Using Excel's VLOOKUP to Merge Data Sources
(Step-by-Step Lab Guide)
This hands-on lab introduces participants to Excel’s VLOOKUP function, demonstrating its utility in merging two data sets into a cohesive table. Participants will practice using the function to combine student information with test scores. This is a foundational skill and while it may look different in other applications, like SQL, Python, or Power Query, the end result is the same.

Blending Data with Power Query
(Step-by-Step Lab Guide)
This hands-on lab introduces participants to Excel Power Query, demonstrating a common task in data merging and blending — creating a multi-year dataset of chronic absenteeism data. Participants will practice building a workflow and returning the results to Excel.

Using R Studio to Combine & Subset Large Public Datasets
(Step-by-Step Lab Guide)
This hands-on lab introduces participants to RStudio to combine multiple years of CDE public data files and narrow down the data for specific schools, districts, or counties. Participants will learn the basics of RStudio, including how to use common libraries and commands with a focus on tidyverse and dplyr. After the basics are reviewed, participants will have an opportunity to practice writing an R script to import, clean, and manipulate data.
