SPRING SOLO FESTIVAL
A solo festival is an extra-curricular performance opportunity. Students prepare a solo assigned by their school teacher or private teacher that is appropriate for the students current level. Level 1 is for first-year players and level 6 is professional repertoire. A prepared audition is 10 -15 minutes, minus your travel time and warm-up time.
Arrive 45 minutes before the time provided by the teacher 3 weeks before the event. The actual assessment consists of a solo and scales prepared in the months leading to the audition and sight-reading material that even the music teacher cannot see ahead of time. Adjudicators are trained music professionals. Students only need to pick one date and will need a guardian to get them to the event. Although a district music teacher will be present, the district does not transport students to this event. You may leave immediately following your audition. Your preferred times are finalized 2-3 weeks before the event. Your music teacher will notify you of your student’s score as soon as possible. For more information, please visit www.NYSSMA.org. Students are required to purchase an original solo specified by the school music teacher. Your school ensemble teacher will provide you with the name of the appropriate solo. The registration fee is NOT required when you hand in this form.
