Welcome to 4th Grade ELA with Amplify!
This year, students will experience an exciting blend of reading, writing, speaking, and listening through the Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) curriculum.
CKLA connects history, science, and literature to help students grow as confident, thoughtful readers and writers.
■ What Students Will Learn This Year
Students will explore a wide range of topics that build both knowledge and literacy skills:
1. Personal Narratives – Writing true stories with details, transitions, and strong verbs.
2. The Middle Ages (Parts 1 & 2) – Exploring knights, castles, kings, and the role of the Church.
3. Poetry – Reading and writing poems using rhythm, imagery, and figurative language.
4. Eureka! Student Inventor – Celebrating creativity by studying inventions and creating their own ideas.
5. Geology: Earth’s Changing Surface – Studying volcanoes, earthquakes, and Earth’s natural forces.
6. Contemporary Fiction – Exploring narrative literature, using excerpts from The House on Mango Street .
7. American Revolution – Learning about key people and events that shaped our nation.
8. Treasure Island – Experiencing an adventure theme.
. ✏■ Skills Students Will Strengthen
Students will build comprehension, vocabulary, and writing skills across genres. They’ll practice grammar, spelling, and conventions, and learn to discuss and support ideas respectfully.
■ Our Goal
By the end of 4th grade, students will have a stronger understanding of the world and the tools to express their thoughts clearly—skills that prepare them for success in every subject.
NOTE: This program is very extensive. We will do our best to try and complete all 8 units.
