Textbooks:
The textbook will be available online through Classlink.
Grading system:
The goal of a modern language class is to teach strategies to be an effective communicator. Therefore, students will be assessed through the following modalities: Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing
Summative Assessments (Tests/Projects/9 weeks exam) 70%
Tests will be announced at least 5 days in advance.
Each 9 Weeks will end with a culminating 9 Weeks Exam that cannot be retaken, and falls into the 70% summative weight
Formative Assessments (Quizzes, Daily Practice and Application) 30%
Exams
There will be an end of semester exam each semester that is worth 20% of the final grade for that semester.
For Spanish, students may exempt both semester exams if their semester average qualifies. THIS DOES NOT APPLY FOR COAL OR PHYSICAL SCIENCE.
🌮Homework:
The purpose of homework is to practice and review what we are studying in class. I may not always give a written homework assignment, however, you are expected to study and review the material that we are learning in class (vocabulary, grammar, culture, etc.) for a minimum of 10-15 minutes each day. This will help you to prepare for assessments.
Reassessment:
The practice of reassessment is to provide students with additional opportunities to demonstrate proficiency or mastery of the standards. All students will be given the opportunity to reassess on summative assessments.
Before reassessing, students will be required to attend a tutorial, are expected to complete corrections on the original assessment, and/or complete any other task.
Students will not be permitted a reassessment on the end of semester exams.
Honor Code:
All work, including exams and out of class assignments, must be done independently. We will announce any exceptions to this policy (e.g., in the case of a group project or partner assignment). Do not use online translators or have another person help you with any projects, compositions, etc. Note: The use of online translators is considered to be plagiarism and therefore a violation of the Honor Code.
Attendance and Make-up work:
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you have missed. Please make up all work in a timely manner.
Extra help:
We are available for tutoring by appointment. Students should ask for help as soon as a problem is evident. The longer you wait the harder it will be to catch up.
Cell Phones / Electronic Devices:
In the classroom, students can only have technology out, on, or in use with permission from the teacher. Personal electronics must be put away in a backpack. There will be times when we use devices in class and we will be very clear about when it is okay to use them. Students need to be able to focus on learning and engaging with each other and their teacher during a lesson without the distraction of their phones. We also do not want earbuds and headsets to be out, unless we are using them in a lesson.
Message to Parents: Thank you for taking the time to read through our procedures and policies. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. It is going to be a great year!
Sincerely,
Señor Rhea
