I grew up in a suburb of Atlanta. Upon graduating from high school I moved to Athens, where I attended the University of Georgia. After receiving my Bachelor's degree, I relocated to Augusta and took a job at the Medical College of Georgia (now Augusta University) doing ophthalmology research. Part of my job duties included teaching medical students who came through the lab on their research rotations. Through that experience, I decided that my heart was in education.

 My husband (Dr. Stawiery) is also a teacher (at Augusta University). We have two children- Landon is 15, and Laila is 13. We have two fur babies (Owen and Oliver) who sometimes forget that they belong to a different species. I enjoy spending time outdoors, attending my kids' sporting events, and doing arts & crafts. On Saturdays in the Fall you'll find me watching the Dawgs play football. 

This is my 19th year in education and my 12th year at GTHS. Teaching is my passion, and I enjoy every day in the classroom. My goal as a science educator is not only to teach students science content, but to encourage them to apply their knowledge to think critically, logically, and skeptically about real-world situations. In addition to teaching at GTHS, I am an adjunct faculty member at Brenau University, Augusta University, and Georgia Virtual School. I love to teach because I love to learn!
