An inclusion Pre-K is a program that allows children with and without disabilities to learn and play together in the same space. The goal of inclusion is to help all children learn to the best of their abilities and prepare them for success in school and life.
At Grovetown Elementary, there are two Pre-K classes, both of which are inclusion classrooms. In each class, there is a total of 18 students. 12 students are general education students that are chosen through the Georgia Pre-K Lottery. 6 students are students who have special needs or exhibit significant weakness in any of the five areas of development: Communication/Language, Cognition, Social/Emotional, Motor, and/or Physical development. These students receive special education services and are placed in the classroom through the Columbia County Special Education Department.
At all times, there will be 3 adults present in each classroom: The Lead Pre-K Teacher (Mrs. Smith), Pre-K Paraprofessional (Mr. Bonesteel), and either the SPED Pre-K Teacher (Mrs. Tammy) or SPED Teacher's Paraprofessional (Mrs. Fig). Mrs. Tammy and Mrs. Fig alternate between the two Pre-K classrooms every day in order to provide students with special education services.
The dress code in Pre-K is the same code throughout all grades at Grovetown Elementary, however, here are some helpful recommendations for this young age group-
Dress your child in clothes they feel comfortable in and can easily take off and put on independently
Shorts are encouraged under all dresses and skirts
Shoes that your child can put on/secure themselves
Flip flops/shoes without backs are not permitted at school. It is highly encouraged to dress your child in shoes that they can easily run, hop, skip, jump in. This age group is very active and the safety of your child is our top priority!
If you would like to volunteer to join our class on field trips, visit our classroom during a fun activity/special celebration, or if you are interested in reading a book to our class, you must complete the GTE Parent Volunteer Requirements.

Pre-K Parent/Teacher Conferences are held at a different time/date than all other grade levels at GTE. There will be a two-week window of conferences in the months of December and May to discuss your child's Personal & Social, Language & Literacy, Mathematical Thinking, Scientific Thinking, Social Studies, The Arts, and Physical Development progress. These meetings usually last around 20 minutes, in which you will receive a detailed Narrative Summary as well as your child's work samples. More details regarding the conferences will be sent out closer to the conference dates. If you are concerned about your child or would like to discuss your child's progress, you may schedule a meeting with the Pre-K Lead Teacher at any point in the school year.
Students who receive special education services will receive progress reports quarterly, IEP meetings with the special education support team, as well as attending the mandatory Pre-K conferences with the Pre-K Lead Teacher.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send me an email! I would love to help you in any way that I can! 😊
