Classroom Expectations

Mastery of content standards in reading and mathematics
Writing – Write at least 5-7 complete sentences for the following genres: informational, opinion and narrative
STEM: Engage in activities that require engagement in the Engineering Design Process (Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, Improve, Present)

Homework Policy

Read Daily – at least 20 minutes: independently or aloud with an adult (practice building fluency: reading with accuracy, speed, and expression)

Attendance

Students will be rewarded with PERFECT ATTENDANCE parties monthly. For participation students must have 0 absences, 0 tardies or/or 0 leave earlies for the month (time period – approximately 4 to 5 weeks). This a reward for students who achieve this goal and is not meant as a punishment for those who don’t. Students have (7) opportunities to earn rewards. Additionally, for each party attended/earned students names will be entered into a drawing for a bike (k-2 = 1/3-5=1) to be given away at the end of the year. Last year our attendance parties significantly increased our student attendance!

Unexcused Absence Information:

(5) unexcused absences = a documented warning letter

(8) unexcused absences = mandatory meeting with school social worker and administration

(10) referral to truancy court for excessive absences

Toy Policy

Bringing toys to school (for purposes other than an activity your teacher requires/allows) is not allowed. This includes playing cards and fidget spinners.

PTO

Please consider joining our PTO! A PTO Membership is $5. With a membership, you will receive an MES Eagle Sticker, as well as emails with newsletters, volunteer opportunities, and board meeting minutes! Please consider joining to help out our school!

PTO also has MES T-shirts for sale (youth sizes are $10 and adult sizes are $15)! Please contact your teacher for a T-shirt order form.

Transportation

If your child will be going home in a different way, you must submit transportation changes in writing BEFORE NOON on the day the transportation change needs to be made.

Car Rider Procedures

Morning drop-off – Parents should stay in the car rider line unless otherwise directed. No student should be let out of a car unless there are in the designated drop-off area. Please keep speeds to 10 mph or less and refrain from using cell phones.

Dismissal – Please have car rider tags clearly displayed. Please pay attention to teachers who are directing cars. Parents must pick us students by 4:00. After 4:00 PM students will be taken to aftercare and there will be a $10 charge. Please keep speeds to 10 mph or less and refrain from using cell phones.

Donated Supplies

We are always looking for supplies, such as cardboard (from cardboard boxes), toilet paper and paper towel rolls, toothpicks, popsicle sticks, aluminum baking pans, etc.
You can send these in anytime or contact us if you think you have something that might be useful.
