This is such a fun unit of study! In this unit, we will use science tools such as microscopes, hand lenses, forceps, and slides. We will explore plant and animal cells under microscopes with different magnifications to know what scientists see. We will learn the parts of the cells and their purposes. We will learn how to identify, compare and contrast plant and animal cells. We will create models of the different types of cells to show what we know and extend learning.
Unit test- October 1st
This unit will cover inherited versus learned traits and behaviors. Be prepared for lots of questions about ears, tongue rolling, thumbs, and so much more. This is such a fun unit!
This unit explores how constructive and destructive forces change earth's surface as well as the types of technology we use to predict events such as earthquakes and volcanoes. We will also explore the impact of erosion and solutions to beach erosion.
This is one of my favorite units! We explore how matter can be changed physically (shape, color, size, state: solid, liquid, gas) without changing the actual matter . We work with mixtures and solutions discovering ways to separate them. We compare that to chemical changes, where substances are actually changes and a new substance if produced. We look for signs of this change (gas:bubbles, foam, smell, unusual changes in color and temperature and unusual changes in states). These changes cannot be reversed. Students are constantly problem solving and discovering new reactions.
In this unit, we explore the how Natural Electricity (Static, Lightning, etc) and Human Harnessed Electricity (current) are produced and used. There are so many fun experiments in this unit. The video shows some you can do at home.
We also learn to build simple circuits and learn how switches work.
