In First Grade, we cover reading, writing, math, science and social studies skills. In reading, we will focus foundational knowledge so that students can grow into fluent readers who can comprehend what they read. Our math curriculum works to establish a strong number sense. Science and Social Studies standards lay the ground work for future study.
Students are considered 'tardy' when checked out early. If you are leaving for a medical appointment, please remember to send a medical note back to school the next day for your early check out to be excused. If you have any questions about this new policy, please contact the front office.
The Baker Place Elementary front office closes for check out every day at 3:25 so that we can safely dismiss our students. It will reopen at 4:10 when dismissal is completed for the day.
Want to celebrate a birthday? We do too! Please contact your child's teacher to find out the best time and way to bring in a small treat for the class. Please help us out and bring in only store bought items so we can easily monitor allergies. We appreciate your understanding!
Columbia County school policy allows first grade students to complete 30 minutes of homework per night.
Please reach out to your child's teacher if you wish to schedule a conference.
We love that here! Please remember you must sign and return the "Walker Form". A guardian or older sibling must pick up your student from the side door nearest the flag pole at the front of BPE. Walkers do not exit the main entrance of BPE. No pets are allowed on BPE campus at any time. You can get the form from your child's teacher at Open House or from the front office.
Here are a few quick ways to get involved at Baker Place:
join or volunteer with the PTO
become a business partner
attend school wide events after school hours
chaperone a field trip
donate needed items to your child's classroom
stay informed by reading weekly newsletters
Your child's teacher may have more specific volunteer opportunities. Contact her if you'd like to hear of classroom level opportunities.

Attendance is very important. Students are allowed 5 parent notes per semester. Please take time to receive and send medical notes to school for your absences to be excused before the use of 5 parent notes.
You may no longer call the office to make a transportation change. All changes must be made in writing. You can send a hand-written note or e-mail your child's teacher prior to 3pm to make a change in transportation.
