Model United Nations Charter

Article I. Name, Purpose, and Authority
The name of this club will be Evans High School Model United Nations Team.
This organization will have three main goals:
1. To promote student interest in the inner-workings of government and the United Nations through extensive research and direct participation.
2. To encourage students to be aware of current events by engaging them in discussion of pertinent global issues.
3. To promote confidence, leadership, and speaking ability among the students of Evans High School, as approved by the governing body of Evans High School.
Article II. Membership
Any student in good standing enrolled at Evans High School who maintains a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 is eligible to be a member.
While the club will be promoting students to openly express themselves, they will not be allowed to defy the rules in the Columbia County Code of Conduct.
To ensure commitment, dues of $30* must be paid by all members before attending a Model United Nations Conference. [*Amount subject to annual updates.]
Article III. Club Officers
The elected club council will consist of three positions:
President: The President will work with the other officers and members to develop plans and methods for advancing the EHS Model UN team. They will communicate with the members and the officers regularly and collaborate on plans. The President has the executive decision if there is a difference of opinion among the officers and members. The President will act as the role model of and for Model UN and work to recruit new members.
Vice President: The Vice President will work alongside the president, assisting them in their duties and collaborating between all of the officers. They will communicate with the officers and group members to maintain an active Model UN team. The Vice President will serve as a role model of and for Model UN and will work to recruit new members.
School Outreach Coordinator: The School Outreach Coordinator will work with the other officers and sponsor to promote the Model UN team at Evans High School. They will identify school events to participate in and coordinate with club members to develop a positive image of the EHS Model UN team. They will create and distribute outreach materials. The School Outreach Coordinator will serve as a role model of and for Model UN and will work to recruit new members.
Article IV. Officer Eligibility
Students running for an officer position will be required to not have any discipline referrals and have attended at least one conference for each academic year of membership on the Evans High School Model United Nations Team.
Article V. Officer Selection
Candidates who have submitted a complete application by the designated deadline will be considered for the position indicated on their application. Candidates will be interviewed by the Club Sponsor to determine eligibility and qualifications. The Club Sponsor will have full discretion to select officers.
Article VI. Meetings
1. Club meetings will be held twice a month, with dates scheduled by the Chair. Special meetings also may be held at the discretion of the Chair. The Club Sponsor or a faculty member must be present at all meetings.

Article VII. Faculty Advisor
The official faculty advisor for the Evans High School Model United Nations Team will be responsible for overseeing the operation of the club to include collecting and accounting for dues, approving club meeting times and location, arranging trips to Model UN conventions, and executive management of the club charter.
Article VIII. Ratification
This charter shall be ratified by a 2/3 vote of the members attending a meeting with a quorum which is defined as 10 people. [Ratified Sep, 2015]
Article IX. Amendments
This constitution may be amended at any regular meeting by two-thirds vote of the membership, provided the proposed amendment has been submitted in writing two weeks before it is to be voted upon and provided it has the approval of the advisor. The faculty adviser has the power to make amendments to the charter without a membership vote.
