During my internship as a Math teacher in San Juan National High School, I encountered different challenges that challenged my capability as an educator. First, many students were struggling to catch up with the day to day lessons because of the gap in their knowledge in fundamental Mathematics concepts. This was caused by the modular distance learning during the pandemic, where students could not grasp concrete Mathematics concepts and apply them during online classes or in-person instruction. Second, some students were regularly absent, which made it difficult for me to teach them everything effectively. Third, the class suspension was also a challenge because the Junior High School students had less time to study since they only attended school three times a week due to the new alternate classes implemented in the school. Lastly, some students lacked discipline, which made it hard for me to maintain order during my classes.
Despite all the challenges, there were also several positive things that I learned from my internship. First, most students were participative in my class. They would actively ask questions for clarification if they didn't understand the topic promptly. Second, some of the students enjoyed my Math class. They would even share their ideas and insights that facilitated open communication in the classroom. Third, there was a noticeable improvement in some of my students, particularly with their analytical and problem-solving skills. Fourth, I also improved my teaching techniques. I learned to be innovative, creative, and resourceful in using different tools to improve student engagement and learning.
In retrospect, my internship was not without its challenges. But through these hurdles, I learned how to adapt, become resilient, and focused on my goals. I realized that every challenge presented an opportunity to improve, grow and be better. Even though I had some setbacks, I believed the positive impact I had on my students was rewarding, and it motivated me to pursue my passion in teaching even further. I believe I have acquired valuable experiences and skills that will help me become a better educator and be more effective in my future classrooms. I am grateful for the experience and the people who supported and guided me throughout my internship.
During my practice teaching in Math at San Juan National High School, I learned so much about the importance of building strong relationships with students. For my first week, I had trouble getting the students to engage and participate in my lessons. I realized that this was because I had not established a rapport with my students yet. So, I began to create more opportunities for communication and collaboration, and also implemented various teaching techniques that the students found interesting. Eventually, I noticed that the students became more active and engaged in class discussions, which was a rewarding experience.
Another critical aspect of my practice teaching was the value of adaptability. In certain classes, I had to adjust my teaching style to fit the needs of the students. I had to alter my lesson plans and incorporate more examples and interactive activities, which helped to bring out the best in my students. Moreover, I learned the importance of incorporating creative ways and games to improve students' engagement and understanding of Mathematics concepts.
Lastly, San Juan National High School provided me with a great opportunity to develop my communication and time-management skills. I had to communicate with my co-student teachers and cooperating teacher effectively. Also, preparing and delivering daily lessons while making sure to complete all my duties and responsibilities was challenging. But, the experience taught me to manage my time efficiently and plan my lessons more effectively, which I believe will serve me well in my future teaching career.
Throughout my academic journey, I have accomplished numerous milestones that have shaped me into the person I am today. One of my most recent achievements came in the form of completing my pre-demo teaching at the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture. During this process, I learned valuable skills that helped me prepare for my future career as an educator.
Another notable accomplishment was the rehabilitation of the garden in front of our e-classroom. With the help of my peers, we were able to transform this space into a vibrant and welcoming environment for students to learn and grow. This project taught me the importance of teamwork and collaboration in achieving a common goal.
Lastly, I am proud to have completed a two-month internship program and successfully passed my final demo teaching. Through observation and hands-on experience, I was able to hone my skills and gain confidence in my abilities as a teacher. These accomplishments have not only helped me excel in my field of study but have also given me the determination to continue working towards my goals and making a positive impact in the world.
During my two-month program of practice teaching, I had an extensive participation in the class. I was responsible for preparing lesson plans, teaching the classes, grading the students' assignments, and giving feedback to help them improve. I also worked closely with my mentor teacher who provided me with regular feedback and support. My active involvement in the class allowed me to develop my own teaching style and strategies, which helped me to effectively connect with students and create a positive learning environment.
Apart from my practice teaching, I was invited to be a panel member during the Senior High School's thesis defense. Being part of this panel not only gave me the opportunity to interact with students from a different educational level; it also allowed me to share my insights and knowledge, and provide them with feedback about their research work. This experience helped me to develop my critical thinking, analytical skills, and my ability to communicate effectively.
Lastly, I attended a three-day seminar about teaching pedagogy and strategies in Mathematics. This seminar exposed me to the latest teaching techniques and strategies, and provided me with a better understanding of how students can achieve success in Mathematics. The seminar equipped me with practical tools and techniques to use in the classroom - including innovative materials and engaging activities. Attending this seminar not only improved my own teaching skills, it also enabled me to share this knowledge with my mentor, fellow teachers, and students.
In conclusion, during my two-month program of practice teaching, I had an active participation in the class which allowed me to develop my own teaching style and strategies; I was invited to be a panel member during the Senior High School's thesis defense, where I was able to share my insights and provide feedback; and I attended a three-day seminar about teaching pedagogy and strategies in Mathematics, which equipped me with practical tools and techniques to use in the classroom. These experiences have all contributed to making me a better teacher, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have participated in each one.
