Lines of inquiry

1. The development to the right to education with better resources

For a research, two Filipino villages were intensely surveyed and group talks were arranged between the members. One village was a more well off and resourced community, while the other was not as much. The research showed that the well-off community demonstrated more interest in investing in school and education while the other did not. Along with this, a research conducted in India in which a large amount of low income families were interviewed, inn the results, out of the money coming into the household, only 6% of all of it in average was invested into the child or childrens education. To solve this problem, Nuestra Señora De las Mercedes provides different activities and a quality education to those Colombian House holds who suffer the same problem of not being able to afford sufficient school materials or the school fee in itself, asking for nothing in return.

2.Less resources can affect education for kids

The lack of school supplies in children has a very big impact in their learning and personal life. According to Ayers (2022) “Students struggle and show signs of learning disabilities”.This means that if students have lack of resources they would have problems during their learning. In our PYP Exhibition, we noticed that the girls had a very good learning development. But we also notice that the learning development of an 11 year old girl from the foundation wouldn't  the same as our learning development. That is a very good example of how the learning changes depending on the resources children use to study.

3.How conflict affects education

Conflicts that have happened before can affect our life in the present. Consequences can be good or bad depending of what happened before. Social and family issues can also impact the student process. A survey which was done for the National institute of Child Health and Human Development found that almost one-third of U.S students in grade 6-10 were part of frequent bullying, 10% as bullies , 13% as victims and 6% as both. The survey reports the other 71% of students were involved in it some point at school. Another study was conducted in UCLA( University of California Los Angeles) to show how it can affect student preformance. This study involved 2,300 students from public schools in Los Angeles, including teachers. Jaana Juvonen, psychology professor in UCLA and lead author of the study said most bullied students perform and participate poorly because of fear of bullying, and when they get labeled "Dumb", they perform even worse.  In The foundation Nuestra Señora de Las Mercedes, the 7 girls living there can be an even easier target, since they can be labeled as poor, which can make them insecure of the work they do. To solve this, the foundation does various activities that help them relax. Additional to that, we wanted to check their self-esteem levels, so we conducted an activity that helps them feel happier, along with a superhero activity to boost their creativity.
