If your son has an allergy that requires that he carry an epipen, please be sure to notate that on his health form. Please provide him with the means to carry it at all times (he should have a shoulder bag/backpack, etc). If you want to send along a back up with ME, please email me before the trip and I am happy to keep a spare in case he loses his!
Please choose items that your son is accustomed to taking. Don’t send along something he has never tried!!! Go with what YOU (and he) know. I will have additional first aid with me like thermometer, bandage tape, gauze, etc. I will NOT administer or allow your son to take any internal meds that you don’t provide so please pack carefully!
Remember: ALL medications – prescription and over the counter – must have a written order and/or written parent permission. Medication must be packed in its original container(s) and kept in a zip lock bag with the student’s name on it. Prescription medication must have written orders that state the name of the medication, exact dosage and schedule. Please include written permission for your son to carry and self administer all meds in the zip lock bag. Students can carry their own medication, but they cannot share that medication with others. Please send only the amount necessary for the duration of the field trip.
Spending Money
Please discuss spending money and budgeting with your son. How you choose to send money is at your discretion (prepaid credit cards, debit card, or cash). Island prices are high, and Hawaii will be very expensive. It would be very helpful for solo travelers to have tap-to-pay options AND a credit or debit card on hand. Itinerary Days show what meals are included (BLD)
Tipping
Contemporary Tours recommends that each traveler tip:
$8/Day for Tour Managers
$5/Day for motor coach drivers
$3/Day for local guides
Include Hotel Housekeeping (around $10-15) = $100/person in gratuities (roughly)
I can collect ahead for solo travelers and make payments on their behalf, or you can send them with cash, and we all just tip on our own…
