I need more Wrestling!
Wrestling Clubs:
I have no affiliation with any of these clubs, but I wanted to list all of the club options available in our area. Clubs are a great opportunity to find additional opportunities to train and get better. Clubs offer a wide variety of services for a fee so please research them and make your own decisions about whether or not a club is a good choice for you.
ALPC Wrestling Club (Maiden)
Believe to Achieve Wrestling Club - Facebook Page (location in Vale)
Combat Athletics (Bermuda Run - Davie County)
Darkhorse Wrestling (Charlotte)
Tournaments:
As I become aware of tournaments, I will post them to the JF Wrestling Google Calendar. Please do your own research to see if the tournament is a good fit for you and your skill level. If you have questions, talk to me about it and I will give you my honest opinion. You can find tournaments on your own through the various youth wrestling organizations (see below). If you find an interesting tournament that I do not have on the calendar, please email me the flyer or information and I will post it.
Youth Wrestling Organizations:
There are a number of state and national organizations dedicated to wrestling. You can use these organizations to find clinics and tournaments to help you get better.
Wrestling Techniques:
I have no affiliation with any of these websites, but I feel like they offer consistently good techniques. Many of these techniques will be more advanced beyond your skill level (or mine) but their fundamentals are always excellent.
Jeff Jordan's State Champ Camp - Coach Jordan has a proven record as a wrestler, coach, dad, and mentor. You can find great wrestling techniques along with pearls of wisdom on his YouTube channel. If you would like to learn more information about him, here is a link to his National Wrestling Hall of Fame page.
Askren Wrestling Academy - Ben and Max Askren are brothers who run a wrestling academy in their home state of Wisconsin. Ben "Funky" Askren is a 2-time Hodge Trophy Winner, 2-time NCAA Champion, and 4-time NCAA finalist. Max Askren is a 3-time All-American.
John Smith - Coach Smith is considered one of if not the greatest American Wrestlers of all time because of his collegiate and international wrestling success. He doesn't have a specific channel, but you can search for him on Youtube and find numerous technique videos.
FloWrestling - FloWrestling is a pay website for the most hardcore wrestling fans. They offer a huge library of wrestling technique videos from numerous college wrestlers and coaches. They also cover national and international wrestling events for wrestlers of all ages. This is an awesome website, but I would only recommend paying for the subscription if you live and breathe wrestling.
Watch Wrestling:
If you are passionate about wrestling, watch it when you can. I will make sure the Foard matches are all posted to the Jacobs Fork Wrestling Google calendar so you can go watch our big brothers up the hill wrestle when you can. During wrestling season, there are also a ton of opportunities to watch wrestling on television or steaming if you have access. I will list the platforms I use to help you get started.
ESPN Plus - This platform has a ton of sports. If you want wrestling, scroll down to "SPORTS" and look for the Singlet icon labeled "Wrestling". You will find a LIVE & UPCOMING section that features college matches that are live now as well as others that will be live soon. They also have an ON DEMAND section where you can replay recent matches. ESPN has a contract with the Big 12 which is an excellent wrestling conference featuring teams like Missouri, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, Oklahoma, North Dakota State, and others. They will also cover the NCAA Wrestling Tournament in March. They also air matches from other conferences. Occasionally, I get to watch my Appalachian State Mountaineers wrestle on this platform.
Big Ten Network (BTN) - The Big Ten Network airs various collegiate sports for teams in the Big Ten conference which is the premier wrestling conference in the country. You can watch teams like Penn State, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State, Northwestern, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and others.
ACC Network (ACC) - The ACC Network airs various collegiate sports for teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The ACC may not be as strong as the Big Ten, but they are on par with the Big 12 and features some excellent wrestling. You can watch teams like NC State, Virginia Tech, North Carolina (UNC), Pittsburgh, Duke, and others.
