ALL ABOUT ART CLASS:Β This is a semester-long course that is designed to introduce and strengthen studentβs artistic skills and knowledge.Β The course will include projects and activities that will boost students critical thinking skills and artistic ability.Β Class participation is important in the art classroom.Β We will be using Google Classroom as our online classroom.Β Β It is important for students to check their Google Classrooms daily for important announcements.Β As a class we will learn about many different art mediums, styles and processes, as well as art history and current happening in the art world.Β Students will be graded on class assignments, art projects and their sketchbooks.

Students will keep a sketchbook semester long that will be collected twice for a grade (once at the end of each quarter).Β Assignments will be given out weekly/bi-weekly and written on the board.Β Students are responsible for completing all sketchbook assignments.Β They are expected to work on these assignments when they finish their daily work early and for homework.Β Every assignment mustΒ fill the entire page. The sketchbook is used daily in the classroom.Β When grading I am looking for creativity, skill, neatness, following instructions, & filling the space.Β This is a great tool for students to brainstorm before creating projects.
It is the student's responsibility to get all missed work when absent or tardy.
Come prepared daily with materials. -- You will always need a pencil, your sketchbook & other materials.
Students will have a vault space in the classroom to keep their artwork & materials from day to day.
Come in quietly, get materials from their vault and begin work on the current project or sketchbook assignment until instructions are given for the day.
1st Tardy - warning after that silent lunch will be given for students who are constantly late to class.Β Β
Cell phones and Smart watches are to stay in lockers and on silent.
Students may listen to music as long as they bring their own headphones.Β Volume must be low and not distracting to others & students may NOT search for music during class.
Any late or incomplete work can always be submitted for a grade.Β
No GUM, food or drink except water.
CLEAN-UP- The classroom must be left clean and all materials placed in their vaults or book bags. Students are responsible for their space and the materials they use.
Students will be dismissed by the teacher at the end of class time.Β

Maiden Middle schools art classroom will be using Artsonia.com.Β Artsonia is an online visual art museum filled with student work from all over the country ranging from elementary school all the way through high school.Β The website is secure and is used as a sharing tool to inspire others and create an artistic community virtually. This is a great resource for teachers, students and parents.Β This site is FREE to use.Β As a parent, you can view your young artistβs artwork at any time and you can also order knick-knacks with your students work on them.Β You can also view what other classes and grades at Maiden middle school are doing.Β Signing this form allows Ms. Childress permission to post and share your studentβs artwork on the website.Β If you have any further questions or concerns about Artsonia, please email me at Natalie_Banary@catawbaschools.com.Β
This course is a year long visual arts course that focuses on the young artist as a whole.Β This course will help students begin creating an art portfolio to carry with them into future endeavors.Β Students will work in the studio to create 2D works of art such as self portraits and landscapes painting as well as 3D sculptures using recycled materials, clay, cardboard, and or found objects.Β Students will complete an artist study on an artist of their choosing.Β Art7 is a prerequisite for this course as well as the recommendation of Ms. Childress.Β
