Module 3
Module 3
There are various ways to design products. Here are some steps that are implemented using fabrication (3D printing) or using resources available to you.
Sketching your design
Now that you have navigated the design process, create a more detailed sketch of your design. The key is to draw it in a way that outlines all components you want to include in the physical product. Think about including side angles, the top angle, the back angle, and the front angle. Learn more about how to create an orthographic drawing here.
Physicalizing your product without technology
To bring your final product to life after prototyping, there are various methods to use. If you plan to create your product without using technology, feel free to use the materials available to you. Accessible materials may include cardboard, plastics, fabrics, and other similar materials. Some of the best products can come out of recycled material, so feel free to be creative. Using CAD
If you plan on using computer-aided design to bring your product to life, navigate to the computer-aided design tab on this website to familiarize yourself with using CAD.Â
3D Printing
After designing your product with CAD, 3D printing is a great way to bring your product to life. This is called digital fabrication, where your 3D design model is machined. To learn more about 3D printing, navigate to the 3D printing tab.
