FAQ
URS and RSP do not have any dues. The program is completely free. If you see anything suggesting that you must pay, that is not from us.
Questions on Events
Q: Which events do each type of RSP scholar need to go to?
A: You need to go to (or make-up) at least one event a month for your specific program (e.g. Rising Scholars or Research Scholars) in addition to the extra requirements listed under the program structure page.
Q: Is there a September event?
A: No there is no September event this year. Our first required event will be in October.
Q: How do I complete events?
A: You attend the events either on Zoom or in-person (depending on the event) and participate as necessary (e.g. ask questions, etc.).
For Zoom events, you have to register on Zoom (using your CWRU account) for your attendance to be counted.
For in-person events, you have to sign-in for your attendance to be counted.
Some external events will require a reflection for your attendance to be counted as well
Q: What if I can’t attend an event?
A: Please complete a make-up assignment that will be sent out to you after the event or participate in a different event (if available for your program).
Questions on Departmental Seminars
Q: How do I show attendance for the departmental seminars?
A: There is a Google form linked here as well as under the departmental seminars tab.
Q: How do I find seminars?
A: The departmental seminar page on this website will try to help you find a seminar that you may like.
Q: Will "blank" seminar count?
A: If it is hosted by a department at CWRU, most likely yes; email cwru_rsp@case.edu if you are unsure. The rule of thumb is: if it is a talk about given by a professor or graduate student, it will likely count.
Q: How do I make sure my attendance is counted?
A: There is a short reflection form to fill out after attending a seminar. It can be found under the drop down of the departmental seminars tab or at this link.
Questions on Make-up Assignments
Q: When are make-up assignments sent out?
A: The make-up assignments will generally be sent out one to two (1-2) weekends after the event.
Q: When are make-up assignments due?
A: The specific due dates should be stated in the make-up assignment email sent after the event, but you will get at least a week to complete them.
Q: When are lab hours for Research Scholars due?
A: The reporting of lab hours (Research Scholars only, not Rising Scholars) will be due with the mid and end of year reflections (at semester)
Q: Where can I find the recordings to complete the make-up assignments?
A: Any recordings we have are linked in the make-up assignment email sent after the event and will be posted in the make-up tab of this website
Questions on the Program
Q: Do I need to go to all of the events run by RSP?
A: No; you need to go to (or make-up) all of the events for your specific program (Rising Scholars or Research Scholars). Sometimes the events may overlap though.
Q: What are the requirements for my program?
A: Check out the Program Structure tab on this website to find out.
Q: Why am I not receiving the email for an event?
A: It depends; you may have been missed from the email list. More likely, an email has not been sent yet. Please allow for one to two (1-2) Fridays after the event for an email to be sent.
Q: How can I check my checklist on CampusGroups?
A: To find "My Checklist" on CampusGroups, please use this link: https://community.case.edu/web_app?id=24030&menu_id=37463&if=0&sub_page=my_checklists. To view the checklist on the mobile app, go to "My Activity", then "My Badges", and then tap on the "More" icon (three horizontal lines in the upper left, next to the CWRU icon) when you are in the "My Badges" page (this should also work on the "My Points", "My Surveys/Forms", and "My Workflows" pages as well). You should see "My Checklists" under "My Activity".
To view the checklist on a browser, go to "My Activity" and then "My Checklists". I hope this helps.
Q: How can I contact the program administrators?
A: Please send an email to cwru_rsp@case.edu. This is a dedicated email address for RSP-specific inquiries.
Q: Should I email cwru_rsp@case.edu for a make-up assignment?
A: If it has been more than two (2) weekends after the event, please email cwru_rsp@case.edu for a make-up assignment. If not, please be patient. It is more likely that an email has not been sent yet.
Q: I cannot attend the Awards Ceremony. Can I still receive my certificate of completion?
A: Yes; instructions on how to pick up your certificate of completion would be given via email.
Q: Will completing the Research Scholars Program be on my transcript?
A: No; unfortunately, transcript changes are beyond the scope and abilities of the Research Scholars Program. You will receive a certificate of completion, but there would not be any indication on your transcript.
Q: I am a Rising Scholar who has found a PI/mentor/laboratory position. Can I be Research Scholar?
A: We will be dealing with this on a case-by-case basis at the end of the semester. If you find a PI, let us know at semester and you may be able to switch into Research Scholars.
Q: Will I be assigned a mentor/PI through the program?
A: You will not be assigned a mentor/PI through the program; however, the program is willing to assist you in finding a mentor/PI.
