From Research to Recovery:

Thank you to everyone who supported and participated in “From Research to Recovery: New Approaches to the Opioid Crisis” meeting. The conference featured speakers from a broad array of disciplines and institutions in Ohio and across the country. Some highlights include:

• Learning about the innovative approaches to researching, preventing and treating opioid use that are being implemented in scientific research, healthcare, the social sciences and social services.
• Recognizing that there are many older approaches to treatment and recovery that are very effective but that are not being implemented for a range of reasons. More work needs to be done providing access to treatment, recovery, and harm reduction.
• While there is important research being conducted on many aspects of the opioid crisis, more interdisciplinary conversations and collaborations are needed to streamline healthcare, treatment, and education around this complicated public health crisis. We look forward to continuing the conversation.

Our Friday session speakers have generously shared their presentation slides, which can be viewed via the PowerPoint tab above.

The Saturday session featured a speaker roundtable that generated ideas on the substantive changes needed to allow providers, clinicians, and researchers to be more effective in their efforts to address the opioid crisis. These ideas can be viewed via the Takeaways tab above.

This meeting was just the beginning of what we hope will be a sustained conversation on the opioid epidemic and we look forward to more meetings on the opioid crisis in the future.
