What criteria have been approved for determining that a convalescent sample may be worked with using standard BSL2 procedures in a BSL2 laboratory?

1. Test based strategy. (adapted from CDC)

• Time from start of COVID symptoms at least 3 weeks and

• Resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and

• Improvement in respiratory symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath), and

• Two negative results PCR tests test from respiratory specimens collected ≥24 hours apart

2. Time based with no end testing (Non-hospitalized)

• At least 4 weeks for positive PCR test or start of COVID symptoms if no test done and

• Resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and

• Substantial improvement in respiratory symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath)

3. Time based with no end testing (Hospitalized)

• At least 6 weeks for positive PCR test or start of COVID symptoms if no test done and

• Resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and

• Substantial improvement in respiratory symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath)
