BRIEF HISTORY Founded in 1968, Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University was one of the first programs in the world, and we consistently remain a top-ranked biomedical engineering program for graduate studies. Being a truly joint program in the Schools of Engineering and Medicine and the Cleveland Clinic, our research program is at the heart of a vibrant medical community including top-ranked hospitals (Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center) and more than 150 medical and bioscience companies. Furthermore, the BME Department at Case and Cleveland Clinic is one of the very few programs in the nation that hosts three NIH training grants for doctoral students, an important recognition of the excellence of our graduate program.
