A welcome message from Timothy Backus, CASDA's new Executive Director, starting July 1, 2024.
It has been quite an eventful few months for not only myself, but also for CASDA. I have closed out a 35-year career at the South Colonie Central School District and have been immersed in transition planning for my new role as Executive Director at CASDA. Not sure what I thought my 35th year in education might look like, but it has been quite a whirlwind. But also this time with the year end celebrations and graduations reminds me of the reason why I went into education. Seeing the accomplishments of the students and the successes of the school district are an excellent reinforcement of why I chose to be an educator.
I am delighted to be a part of the long history of CASDA and I am looking forward to bringing member school districts together to build community, collegiality and collaboration. At the heart of our work is a commitment to empowering learners of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities through innovative collaboration and strong partnerships. CASDA’s history, reputation and ongoing partnership with UAlbany drew me to this new challenge and I look forward to working with an organization that is committed to collaboration and bringing groups together to improve education.
Having worked closely with CASDA, in a variety of programs, workshops and panels, I was familiar with CASDA’s commitment to education, learning and collaboration. I have worked most closely with the Principal Center Board over the years and I have witnessed first hand the impact that a group of committed leaders can have on the learning environment. I look forward to having a bigger impact as I begin to help direct and facilitate the overall mission of CASDA.
