Elementary Special Area Teachers
Family:
I have been married to Mr. Stewart for 21 years. I call St. Louis, Missouri home, and have lived in Southern Indiana for 19 years.
Mr. Stewart and I have 3 children who all attend CAI. Jonathan is a sophomore and runs XC and track, plays the saxophone, and is in Chamber Choir. Lydia is in 8th grade and plays soccer, sings in choir, and plays the piano and flute. Simeon is in 6th grade, plays soccer, and plays percussion in band. Lydia and Simeon are also members of the CAI Marching Warriors.
Education:
I am a 1999 Graduate of Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis, Missouri. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education, K-12, with a performance emphasis in piano. I have also done some post-graduate work at both Indiana University Southeast and Indiana Wesleyan University.
Experience:
I have spent 15 years in education, with 11 of those years spent in the music classroom. I have taught general music and choir at every level, but my heart is for teaching elementary students.
In church music, I have spent time as a music assistant, and a substitute worship leader, and currently serve on the worship team at Oak Park Baptist Church as a pianist.
Hobbies:
In my spare time, I can be found creating items to decorate my house, helping out with our new flock of 17 chickens, cooking for my family, and making plans for next year's garden. We moved out to a tiny farm (1 acre!) in 2022 and we love the peace and quiet that the country life offers, even if it means a longer commute time!

My husband, Mr. Johnston and I have been married since 2016.
Together, we have three kids: Aidan is 14, Kaelyn is 10, and Hadleigh is 8.
We have a lot of furbabies who we consider part of our family. This includes our 4 dogs, 6 cats, 2 snakes, 1 horse, 1 rabbit, and 1 bearded dragon who has become our special library friend!
Education:
I graduated with my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 2014 from Indiana University Southeast.
In 2022, I earned my Master's degree in Library and Information Science from IUPUI.
Experience:
This will be my 10th year teaching and all of these years have been at CAI.
I was a teacher's aide in the Junior Academy my first year. Then, I spent 4 years as a 3rd grade teacher and this will be my 5th year as the library media specialist.
Fun Facts:
In 2009, I won the Indiana State Science Research Fair and was invited to compete in the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Reno, Nevada where I competed with over 1500 kids from 57 different countries around the world.
I have met the author of the Who Would Win book series, Jerry Pallotta.

Jenny Cook is starting her fourth year as our elementary technology teacher. She sees students who are in kindergarten through fourth grade. She has been teaching for 17 years as a preschool, kindergarten, and first grade teacher as well as her current role as technology teacher. Her favorite part of being a “special area” teacher is getting to see so many different students! Be patient with her as she is learning many new names! Mrs. Cook has three children who have all attended CAI, the youngest being a junior this year. She often teases her children by telling them she loves her fur babies, Bolt and Baxter the MOST! When she is not at school she enjoys reading, cooking, baking, tending to her plants, and spending time with her family!
