Period 1, Week 2

Hello!

This week we will begin our studies with ancient Maya. You will begin by reading a Newsela article about archaeology and its relevance to studying history. Then we will dive into our studies of the Maya by looking at their timeline in history, the origin story- the Popol Vuh, and begin looking at ancient society. You will also have a homework assignment to read a Newsela article on the Popol Vuh to help introduce you to their beliefs.

Period 1, Week 1

Welcome Grade 8!

This year we will be focusing on Central America and Guatemala in particular throughout the course of our studies together. We will begin by looking at the Maya and their contributions to civilization, continuing on to look at the European exploration and conquest through independence, and into modern day Guatemala. We will begin the year by getting to know each other through a "My Life in Pictures" assignment.
