Your first appointment focuses on getting to know you and understanding your goals. We’ll review your intake information, talk through what brought you in, and discuss what you’d like to accomplish in therapy or through testing. It’s also a chance for you to ask questions and make sure you feel comfortable with the process.
If you are seeking a psychological evaluation: Following your initial evaluation appointment, we will schedule a separate testing session. The testing appointment may last up to two hours, depending on the type of evaluation being completed.
If you are seeking therapy: Following your initial therapy intake appointment, your therapist will work with you to schedule your next therapy session. Together, you'll develop a treatment plan based on your goals and determine a schedule that best supports your needs. Therapy sessions are typically scheduled on a weekly or biweekly basis, depending on your individual circumstances and treatment goals.
Testing sessions vary depending on the type of evaluation, but most include a mix of conversation, questionnaires, and hands-on tasks.
To get the best results:
Parents/caregivers will be asked to complete online questionnaires sent via email.
Get a good night’s sleep beforehand.
Eat before your session.
Bring glasses, hearing aids, or other supports if needed.
Follow any directions given by our office given during your reminder call.
After testing is complete, you’ll receive feedback and a written report with clear, practical recommendations.

Street parking is available only and all parking spaces are metered.
For your convenience, we recommend downloading the MeterEZ app before your appointment. You will need to enter your license plate number when setting up your session. Once you arrive, simply open the app, select "New Parking Session," enter the meter number, and choose the amount of time you need. The app will notify you when your parking session is about to expire, allowing you to add more time if needed (when permitted).
If you prefer, you may also pay the meter with quarters. Please note that parking meters have a 2-hour maximum time limit per session.
Erie Office
When you arrive: Look for the blue awning, visitor parking is directly in front of the entrance. Overflow parking is available on the side of the building.
You play an important role in helping your child get the most out of therapy. Encourage honesty, reinforce progress between sessions, and stay curious rather than critical about their feelings or behaviors.
We’ll work together to strengthen communication and support growth both at home and in session.
Does What We Talk About in Therapy Remain Confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is one of the most important parts of the counseling relationship. Successful therapy depends on trust, knowing that what you share stays private. At Counseling and Assessment Services, LLC all clinicians follow the highest ethical and legal standards to protect your privacy and maintain confidentiality.
You will receive written information about confidentiality and informed consent at the start of services. In most cases, what you discuss in therapy will not be shared with anyone without your written permission. You may choose to sign a release of information if you would like your therapist to coordinate care with another provider, such as your physician, psychiatrist, or school counselor.
However, there are a few exceptions required by law and professional ethics where confidentiality cannot be maintained:
If there is suspected abuse or neglect of a child, an elder, or a vulnerable adult.
If a client is at serious risk of harming themselves or someone else.
These situations are rare, but they exist to ensure your safety and the safety of others. Your therapist will discuss any limits to confidentiality openly so you always know what to expect.
