Over 60 cadets marched in the annual Carthage Holiday Parade in downtown Carthage. Despite the temperature being in the mid-20s, our cadet turn-out and enthusiasm was outstanding .

30 Carthage Cadets interested in attending college attended a field trip to Clarkson University. They listened to presentations by university admissions, athletics, and the Army ROTC department. Clarkson ROTC cadets then provided our cadets with a campus tour and lunch at their dining facility. The event ended with a round table discussion between our cadets and five Clarkson and St. Lawrence University ROTC cadets.

Our Fitness Team competed against Mexico Academy's Marine JROTC program for our third competition of the year. Overall, we won first place and also won first place in all team categories! The top girl was Carthage cadet Brianna Wroten. Top boy was Carthage cadet Ethan Marilley. We took home the first place team travel trophy for the third time this year.

The Comet Battalion held its 19th annual year-end awards and change of command ceremony on May 22nd. Over 200 awards were presented to cadets for their academic, athletic and JROTC military accomplishments over the past year. This year 20 national organizations sponsored awards to our deserving cadets. After the awards were issued, we promoted our incoming battalion commander Alexandria VanMeter to the rank of cadet Lieutenant Colonel and conducted a change of command ceremony with out going commander cadet/LTC Natalie Collier.

Over 20 cadets volunteered to assist teachers and staff of Black River Elementary school in their annual Story Walk. This carnival atmosphere event was attended by over 250 elementary school students and their families. Our cadets ran many of the kid's games and activites.

During the week of October 17-21, all cadets participated in CPR training and certification. Special guest instructor Ms. Alex Levine provided the coaching and certification for all of our cadets.

40 Comet Battalion cadets attended Beaver Camp for a day of adventure and teambuilding training. The cadets participated in both high ropes courses and on-ground obstacle courses.

Our mixed team won first place and our male and female teams finished in second place. Individually, Carthage cadets Brianna Wroten and Kahne Goodart won the top female and male categories, respectively.

Every cadet participated in team building exercises designed to motivate cadets to work together, develop their strengths, gain trust amongst their peers, and address any weaknesses in their teamwork skills.

Seventeen Comet Battalion cadets participated in JCLC 2022, a four day adventure/leadership summer camp in Angola, NY. Carthage cadets combined with 75 Army JROTC cadets from Western NY. Activities included land navigation, water activities in Lake Erie, physical fitness, and competitive sports.
Our Color Guard presented the Colors for over 300 students with disabilities from over 15 schools around Northern New York to kick off the start of the Exceptional Games hosted at Carthage .
Comet battalion Color Guard team led the annual Memorial Day parade in Carthage. Cadets assisted the Carthage American Legion in solemn ceremonies at the bridge and war monument. Also cadet/LTC Fiona Walker played TAPS for the ending of the ceremony.
The Comet Battalion Color Guard led the annual Memorial Day parade in the village of Deferiet and participated in the ceremony honoring Deferiet residents that lost their lives serving our country.
Cadets supported the Carthage American Legion's pre-Memorial Day ceremonies honoring fallen soldiers at ten different villages and cemeteries in the Carthage area.

The Comet Battalion excelled on Cadet Command's JROTC Program Accreditation (JPA) that took place on April 22. Our score of 99.5% clearly places us as one of the top JROTC programs in 2d Brigade and the entire country. We will continue to wear the Honor Unit with Distinction yellow star on our uniforms signifying our status as an elite JROTC program.
Cadets posted and retired the Colors and also paid tribute to those MIAs in a touching ceremony at St James Catholic Church in Carthage. Over 100 Vietnam War veterans attended the event hosted by the Carthage American Legion.

Comet Battalion cadets supported the annual Carthage Winter Fest carnival by manning the sled operations. Cadets judged the appearance of the cardboard, homemade sleds and ran the sled races.

We teamed up with 12 Honors Social Studies class to clean the vegetable gardens around our school and prepared the soil ready for the next year's growing season .
Our Comet Battalion drill team and competitive color guard team traveled to Mexico Academy and faced off against other Navy and Marine JROTC programs. Our Color Guard Team and Armed Drill team finished in second place and our unarmed drill team finished in third place. Overall, we finished in third place.

Our Fitness Team competed against Mexico Academy's Marine JROTC program, Utica-Proctor High School's Navy JROTC program and Western, NY Maritime Academy's Navy JROTC program for the second time this year. Once again, we finished in first place.
We performed our first ceremonial color guard of the year on the high school's renovated Comet Field at our varsity football teams first home game. Color guard consisted of Derrick Jiang (rifle), Fiona Walker (school flag), Will McIntosh (American flag), and Gavin Lajoie (rifle)
Our Comet Battalion physical fitness team took first place at Mexico against Mexico Academy's Marine JROTC program, Utica-Proctor High School's Navy JROTC program and Western, NY Maritime Academy's Navy JROTC program. Our Male Team and Mixed Team finished in first place. Our Female Team took second place. Also, Gavin Lajoie and Brianna Wroten won first place with the highest male and female scores, respectively.
2020-2021
Cadets presented and posted the Colors at Flag Day Ceremony held at the Carthage Elks Club.
Comet Battalion Color Guard led the Flag Day Parade. First parade held in Carthage since before the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Comet Battalion held its 17th annual awards and change of command ceremony in June. Over 100 awards were presented to deserving cadets for their performance in JROTC over the past year. This year 22 national organizations sponsored awards to our deserving cadets. After the awards were issued, we promoted our incoming battalion commander to the rank of cadet Lieutenant Colonel and conducted a change of command ceremony.
Cadets supported the Carthage American Legion in honoring fallen soldiers at 10 different villages and cemeteries in the Carthage area.

Adventure Training at Beaver Camp
Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the Comet Battalion couldn't participate in the normal four day JCLC summer camp this year. Instead as an alternative, 40 Comet Battalion cadets attended Beaver Camp for a day of adventure and teambuilding training.

Despite COVID-19 restrictions for most of the year, our Color Guard was still able to present and post the Colors at numerous school and community events.
2019-2020
The Comet Battalion drill and competitive color guard team competed in the Great Lakes Drill Meet in Buffalo again this year. We competed against six other JROTC programs from Western NY. Both our armed and unarmed squads took second place. Our unarmed platoon and LET 1 squad took third place. Overall, we finished in third place.
Twenty Comet Battalion cadets participated in JCLC 2019, a four day adventure/leadership summer camp in Angola, NY. Carthage cadets combined with 60 Army JROTC cadets from Western NY. Activities included rappelling, high and low ropes courses, land navigation, water activities in Lake Erie, physical fitness, and competitive sports.
The Comet battalion Physical Fitness Team competed against Mexico Academy's Marine JROTC program, Utica-Proctor High School's Navy JROTC program and Western, NY Maritime Academy's Navy JROTC program. Fitness events included push-ups, curl-ups, pull ups, flexed arm hang and a relay race. We finished in second place.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
Hospice of Jefferson County
Cadets supported the Hospice of Jefferson County organization by running their annual holiday season fund raising booth at the Salmon Run Mall in Watertown.
Thirty Cadets supervised the childrens' games and events at the annual Black River Elementary School carnival. The carnival raises funds for the Black River public library.
