Welcome to 7th Grade Science! My name is Shannon Weger and I'm looking forward to sharing science with this year's 7th grade students at CJHS! Our focus for the year is Life Science.
Some of the topics we'll explore this year are the study of cells to organisms, the classification of living things, heredity and traits, ecosystems and energy flow, and humans' interactions with the environment.
The focus of this science class is multi-dimensional. While we will cover scientific knowledge (“content”), science itself is rooted in process. It is not just “what we know” but “how we know it.” Students will practice several groups of skills while learning about the world around us through a scientific lens. Study skills (note-taking, organization, reading for meaning) will be an important focus as our 7th grade students become more independent learners. Personal skills (responsibility, communication, participation) will be given time and weight in class as our students grow. And, of course, scientific skills (asking questions, observing, recording data, making inferences) will be practiced throughout the year in many ways.
You can always find the topics covered each day in class and copies of the hand outs from class in our Google Classrooom.
And of course, if you have any questions about assignments, upcoming due dates, or wish to discuss your student's progress, please do not hesitate to contact me. I can be reached by email at sweger@cartervilleschools.org or by phone at (618)-985-4500. I am looking forward to a great year!
