Course Syllabus: SAILS
Teacher: Lance Jarrett
Graduate: ETSU
Certification: Mathematics secondary education
Planning: 7:55-9:05
Course Description: Class offered to students who make a 15-18 on ACT. It is a call on line class through North East State. Framework of material is same throughout the state of Tennessee.
Course Expectations: Each student is expected to pass each test at the end of 5 sections with a 75 or higher to obtain a certificate of completion. The certificate makes them exempt from remedial math at the vocational or university level. This is extremely beneficial to help students not have to take non credit math courses in college.
Text, Technology, and Materials: Laptop and calculator will be provided for all students for in class work. Pencil and paper will be required of each student. All work can be done in class. However, if students get behind material can be made up on any computer or laptop outside of class. The only thing that cannot be done out of class is the end of section test. This test has to be given by a certified SAILS person at each school. Nothing higher than a TI 84 graphing calculator is allowed.
Classroom rules: Cell phones will be taken up at the beginning of each class and returned at the end. If a student chooses not to turn in phone and it is seen by teacher it will be taken up and turned into front office to be picked up at end of school day. Be respectful to teachers, peers, and visitors. I try not to have many rules just be on time, have respect, and act appropriately. Each occurrence will be taken care of individually.
Class grading procedures: All on line material each student must make a 90 on all practice and videos. Make and 80 on quizzes, make 85 on test review, and a 75 on end of section test given by certified teacher. If a grade is made lower than a requirement it can be taken over except end of unit test. A remediation test must be done with a 100 score then can do a retest.
Grade card grade: Test will count 70%, Quizzes %20, and a participation grade %10. The participation grade will be given for staying on the pacing chart. Each day behind 5 points will be deducted up to 6 days and a 70 will be lowest you can get.
